I was in Turkey - Istanbul in August this year for about 10 days or so. The situation there is fine for travelers, if you're referring to the attempted coup a couple of months back. Security checks at both the airports in Istanbul were heavy but expected, otherwise it felt like BAU as far as I can tell.

Is there something more specific you are curious about?

I was there in August this year, and that was

  1. about a couple of weeks right after the attempted coup,
  2. about two months after the Ataturk airport bombing as well.

From a traveler's standpoint, it was BAU as far as I could tell. No disruptions to business or public utilities that I was aware of, and some Turkish locals I've chatted up were friendly enough to give me a more detailed background for those incidents.

Having said that, I can not honestly predict what things are like now or even in two months time - no one can. If you have worries, you can always look up travel advisories on the MFA website and keep an eye out for news over the coming weeks on how the situation is progressing over there. Local politics there is somewhat complicated as there have been speculations that Erdogan is consolidating more and more power with these attacks. There have been stories that a number of active and vocal supporters of his were paid.

Just bring an ATM card that has been activated for overseas use, and withdraw Lira from ATMs there.
