Try to long press on the bottom of the screen where the home button would be if the screen were on.. to see if it works or not.. to wake up the phone.

Settings > display > navigation bar. Inside might have the settings for hard press home button. Check it your phone model have it.

You set up Fingerprint, so when the correct Fingerprint is recognized, the phone will be unlocked, of cause the Screen will be on.
