Taiwan to Canada - separate leg : use fake passport

If
Sri Lanka to Canada (2 transit, SG and TW), only TW will need to recheck in cause of North America

Travel enough u will know if switch terminal or airline will need baggage transfer and another round of customs and security check. All depends on the flight codes and alliance airline

i think he got flag by the system cos he transit to taiwan ...cos according to the web there is no direct non stop flight from sri lanka and canada, either transit in middle east or sg/hk....thus guy fly from sri lanka/sg/taiwan, taiwan side maybe just routinely send someone down to check his itinerary and details see why he does that etc, this guy from sri lanka maybe got similar cases, thus panic, then kena. if he fly straight from sg maybe wont kena ,...just guessing

I really wonder if you got read the article. Let me explain more simply for you.

For transit, you normally don't go through the transit country's immigration again if it's a seamless airside transfer. If your transfer isn't seamless and you have to enter the country, then that's a different matter.

But regardless, the airline operating your onward flight still checks your boarding pass and travel documents before letting you board.

In this case, the report specifically says EVA Air ground staff found something suspicious with his travel documents and itinerary, so they highlighted it to Taiwan's Border Affairs officers. The officers then carried out further checks and found that the Canadian passport was forged.

That's the whole point.

I think the scenario is like this:
From Sri Lanka to Taipei via Singapore he took airlines A so when he transited in Singapore and no need to check passport...
From Taipei to Canada he took airlines B (not alliance / non connection flight) so he needed to pass through immigration and tio caught...

i speculate a bit, passenger disembark, airline/airport has staff on standby for transit passenger, passenger arrived infront of staff, staff asked for passport and boarding pass to make sure transit service is provided to legitimate passenger. Staff tried to make small talk while waiting for more transit passenger, realise the english is not good enough for holding a canadian passport, secretly scrutinize the passport further to avoid alarming passenger, noticed something off, escorted passenger to custom office for further verification.
