Two Monitors, Two Speakers. Need advice!

Hi all,

My rig connected to a TV and Monitor.
I have a two sets of speakers for EACH setup.

I will only be using one of them at a time. So when I'm using one screen, I'll disable the other one.

My problem now is, how do I make the computer detect that i am using Screen 1, and then only play through Speakers 1, vice versa?


I understand that I can just plug my TV Set Speakers into the TV Optical, but then my other speakers will still be playing as my monitor does not have a audio out and it will be directly connected to the PC.

what cable is your tv connected to your rig? HDMI?

OMG tio spotted. How you remember me, damn long ago already! How are you bro? Seems like you're keeping your rig updated well with the times. Mine due for upgrading soon.
Rams going strong, but upgrading to kabylake 2017.. Hopefully, then bye bye ddr3.

Both are Swan Speakers. Both speakers plug directly into PC (Line In). Swans M50W and Swans M200MKII
TV using HDMI, Monitor using DP.

TV has Optical out. Monitor has no audio out.

Basically, I want to know if its possible for the PC to detect which monitor I am using, and allow me to "Assign" speaker to that monitor, so only when that monitor displaying, the assigned speaker will be utilized.

Trying to help out with my best knowledge base on my experience. When I swtich to my TV which is connected via HDMI from my PC, it automatically switch the audio device to my TV.

So from my understanding of what you are trying to achieve, you might wanna connect the speakers to your TV instead.

Haha! Its been a while. Nice to hear from you. Yeah good if you can wait till then. Probably can seek some new features that you may want in kabylake. Im doing fine, going hrough marriage soon.

You might wanna try setting it at sound?

Cause i believe your pc will detect 2 speakers connected through your pc. What you can do is that, set the speaker to default on your main screen. While the secondary one will be the fall back if you turn off your main screen.

I think that should work. Give it a try first?

Guess I'll try your suggestion once I receive it. Do u have to turn off the main monitor or u just use windows settings to disable the main monitor and your main speaker set will disable and play thru TV only?

2 speakers to 1 PC is connected via 1 audio interface which is your mobo audio interface is it? (2 female to 1 male 3.5mm jack?) or do you have another sound card?

As HDMI is connected to your GPU which is able to serve as another audio interface besides your mobo one, therefore it's interchangeable.

But like what royfrosty mentioned, make sure you put your default audio to the HDMI interface when you're on your TV, so when you disable your TV to use your monitor, it'll automatically switch to your speakers via your mobo and vice versa.

A simple but expensive way to do it is to buy a cheap external sound card or external DAC or audio interface. Plug the Swans M50 to the headphone 3.5mm port, plug the other set of speakers to the line out port. When u switch devices, just use the toggle switch on the sound card/DAC/audio interface to toggle between the Swans speakers. But it will cost money though.
