Going to japan in 2 days time and taking Shinkansen. Now news is reporting that Shinkansen suspended due to the typhoon.

A few questions need help:
- If Shinkansen suspended, any other way/s to get from Narita to Kyoto station?
- For Shinkansen disruption which I suppose is transport disruption, how do I claim from travel insurance? Ask JR office to issue official letter of disruption?
- If airline get delayed or cancelled, what should I do to ensure valid travel insurance claim?

Thanks in advance

Tokyo to Kyoto... without Shinkansen you're honestly kind of ****ed. The alternative is via Tokaido line normal trains which takes ~8 hours, and who knows whether that will be stopped too since it is close to Tokaido Shinkansen. From Tokyo to Nagoya you can still take Chuo line, but after that you're still expected to use Tokaido line.

However the Tokaido line between Nagoya to Kyoto is far from the ocean so maybe that might work? So assuming that stretch is not cancelled, you can take Chuo line from Tokyo to Nagoya, then take Nagoya to Kyoto as normal.

Now you know why Japan drama always have scenes where Shinkansen is cancelled. Because it really gets people stuck.

Travel insurance claim depends on the terms of your travel insurance and when you bought it. Update in English for Tokaido (Tokyo-Osaka) Shinkansen services:

https://traininfo.jr-central.co.jp/shinkansen/sp/en/ti02.html
Anyway more important to stay safe and seek shelter, especially as tourists we are reliant on hotels, last minute accommodation may be hard to come by. Typhoon don't play play.
