Hello,

I'm (actually, my sister is) looking to purchase an ultrabook and am looking for suggestions. Here are the specifications preferred:
12.5" - 14"
Haswell processor (i5 is fine, no need i7)
8gb ram
as low weight as possible (1.3kg and below)
at least 250gb SSD
USB 3.0 ports

Other plus points:
user-upgradeable ram/ssd (not soldered on)
touch screen (but not necessary)
More than 2 USB ports, SD card reader
Mac or Windows are ok

Budget is around about 2k, but flexible. Of course, cheaper is always better.

Somehow, even though these options seem like the obvious choice, I see so many laptops that only have 128gb ssd /4gb ram, and few with 256/8gb. And those with 256/8 are typically bundled with more expensive (and unnecessary) i7 processors.

Any models to recommend?

Macbook Air seems to be the best choice but the weight is slightly heavier than the requirement

Apple MacBook Air 13-inch : 256GB @ $1758
i5-4250U/Intel HD Graphics 5000/8GB RAM/256GB PCIe SSD/13.3" 1440x900/1.35kg

Alternatively can consider:

Asus UX32LA @ $1098
i5-4200U/Intel HD Graphics 4400/4GB RAM/500GB Hybrid HDD/13.3" 1366x768/1.45kg

Asus UX32LN @ $1398
i5-4200U/GT 840M/4GB RAM/500GB Hybrid HDD/13.3" 1920x1080/1.45kg

Toshiba Portege Z30-A119 @ $1799
i5-4200U/Intel HD Graphics 4400/4GB RAM/128GB SSD/13.3" 1366x768/1.2kg

Sony Vaio Pro 13 @ $1899
i5-4200U/Intel HD Graphics 4400/4GB RAM/128GB PCIe SSD/13.3" 1920x1080 touch screen/1.06kg

Sony Vaio Pro 13 @ $1999
i5-4200U/Intel HD Graphics 4400/8GB RAM/128GB PCIe SSD/13.3" 1920x1080 touch screen/1.06kg

Sony Vaio Pro 13 @ $2699
i7-4500U/Intel HD Graphics 4400/8GB RAM/256GB PCIe SSD/13.3" 1920x1080 touch screen/1.06kg

There is no official i5 model with 8GB RAM and 256GB PCIe SSD configuration for Sony Vaio Pro 13

You can always get the UX32LA, upgrade RAM to 10GB and change the HDD to SSD. :)
