Unable to detect external HDD help please! Important files

Hi everyone I have a HDD with 1 TB of very important things, at first when I plug into my computer it can detect but then never finishes loading, and now I get this error

d:\I-photo\2013 is not accessible

The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error

Any idea how to fix please? Very important files

It is a WD my passport HD 0748

When this happened to an external drive of mine, I bought a replacement motherboard for the HDD (MUST BE EXACT SAME MODEL!!!!) and replaced the motherboard. Then it read fine.

hey thank you, my computer works fine though, I need to replace the mobo? so does that mean it's my computer and not the external hdd?

this is why you should get a seagate. it doesnt encrypt your files and justs uses usb to sata adapter

this is why you should get a seagate. it doesnt encrypt your files and justs uses usb to sata adapter

New Seagate also do encryption. Most new harddisk do it this way so you cannot simply swap the board for repair. You need to swap the rom chip too and this is not easily diy.

I suggest you try using a different cable and on another USB port, if not already done.

The HDD is encrypted so if the above doesn't work, you may need professional recovery.

If your pictures are taken with mobile phone, did you sync to Google Photo?

the disk is still in good condition, if you encounter some problem, do not attempt to write anything on it. You will hear clicking sound when it happens.

The problem is due to insufficient current from the usb port.

Change to another port, if still cannot, try another computer.

if able to read again, make a copy and discard the drive immediately

Did not sync, everything is on the hdd

Tried on another computer and it works, going to try to recover everything now but there are so many files.

If I can't get to work, should I go to SLS recover? I think there they charge $ per GB recovery is it?

tried different cable, different usb (and on different computer), finally got it to work but only transfers 5 pictures an hour...

Your HDD is dying, reading at damn slow speed.

Price range from a few hundred to $2000 depending on the condition of the HDD.

If no physical damage that require opening of drive, price will be at low end.
