Unable to retain bios settings

Hey all, need you guys help to resolve problem on my motherboard.

The motherboard started losing BIOS settings and time one fine day, even after bios battery change, clear CMOS switch, even flash new ver bios, it still loses settings after powering off and switching off the socket.

It's a gigabyte EP35-DS3.


any bright ideas?

Means it's time to revamp a new system

Jokes aside, could be the battery socket got problem cannot detect the battery. Try not switching off the switch. You got not much choice anyway given the age of your mobo

hmm. i go back use multimeter and check that out. i am stuck on another g31 now. even worse than the p35. zz.

The usual culprit is BIOS battery but since that has been ruled out, it's probably the MB. Don't think there is much you can do other than replace the MB or upgrade MB+CPU.

I had a similar problem with a HP MB. Even with a new battery, the BIOS settings will always revert to default. In the end, I replaced the MB with one from another HP rig.

Dont off main power to the cpu, that helped solve my problem temporary.

Dont off the main power/PSU. Another way is sleep ur com instead of shutdown

Yes I did. Just verified it yesterday. I also measured to voltage of the CMOS battery under load. It seems to be very low, i got a few readings from 0.5V all the way to 2+V. When i removed the battery from the board, it measured fine, bout 3.3V. The battery is new.

the metal contact at bottom of batt holder, try bend it upwards for better contact - see if makes any diff...

After shutdown, do not off the mains. The 5v supply from PSU will continue to power the CMOS circuitry.
