unable to sustain writes

Hi everybody,

i bought a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB M.2 SATA Internal SSD recently and i am using it as an external hard-drive. Noticed that it is unable to write with a sustained rate of 50MB/s or more when i connect it through usb3 port. the usb external hard disc of the samsung ssd would disconnect itself from the computer when i transfer hugh files of a few GB. it does not happen when i connect it through usb2 port which writes it at a lower speed. Any reasons why ? is there some firmware upgrade to the ssd that i should know ?

Issues with USB Port.

Plug directly into motherboard USB 3.0. Try different USB 3.0 ports.

may not be a heat issue because it disconnects after a few seconds of use from the start.

it could not be an issue with USB Port even i am using an usb3 pci addon card because my other external hard disc hdd transfers files without an issue. having said that, doesnt a hdd draws more power than a ssd ? if so then it may not be a power issue. but i will try to connect the ssd internally just to test.

Possible it could be the external casing issue.

Try not to do other processing while doing the transfer as not to affect the transfer rate and writes.

yes i did think it might be the external casing issue so i tried another but the same brand china-made usb ssd case but unfortunately i still get the same errors

NVMe is not meant to be used externally.


You need a dedicated port that supports the bus speeds and high bandwidth. A USB 3.0 won't cut it.

This is a SATA3 SSD, and I don't think is the cause of it as well.
