Hi, my first time using car rental service and is now having issues. Need all the pros here for advice.

1. It is a 1 year contract. 9 months change 3 cars because the 2 cars need to scrap, last car got problem.

2. The 1st 2 cars we took, the first day already got problem. Car vibrate like mad, engine light not working. 2nd car we also encounter car cannot start we need to get tow car.

3. 3rd time we go and change, all choices are with big scratches like have just went through accident that kind. One of the choices, they cant even start the car. There is only 1 car - left 1 month to be scraped that is proper looking. We took it since we really dont have any choice.

4. After driving for 1 week, car cant start, we called tow car. Workshop say ok already, now the brake light not working and it cannot be switched off. So we went back again scare whole night never off, battery die.. Same day workshop say repair finish, we went back, started driving and again got problem. The car vibrates vigorously at 60km/hr, and accelerator need to press very hard then can move.

So now, we went back want to change again. Tell me only got 1 choice. But the car is in bad condition.

Is this a normal scene for rental cars?

1st time I heard car rental contract based on availability of the car. I thought normally is the same model throughout the contract duration.

Ask yourself. If your own car going to scarp in 1 month. Would you bother to repair it ?

I don't know how much u paid for the 1 year contract. Typically a decent car leasing cost at least 2k a month.

Understand they dont want repair not in perfect condition etc.. But also need give a car that is of condition to drive or at least not like here bang there bang that kind?

Or this is just the normal scene whereby we are at the mercy of them.. they give us what we gotta suck it up and take what....

Looks like there is no way to siam the last 3 months of rental?

Many rental company are like this so u have to find a good company. Google for review etc. They do their part to repair and replace the car so i guess u cannot siam the balance contract as they did their job. No choice but i think u have to finish the balance mths.

Next time if u wanna sign long term like 1yr etc, it is better to find a newer car and best is non phv model.

If u plan to go for long lease, pay a bit more for newer car, less problem.
Since already 9mths plus, just tahan another 2 mths or pay them the balance, u have no choice.

just curious, how much is it a month? Like that $1k is not even worth it liao, you can just source such cars yourself and buy and take the risk.

these renters take in close to paper value and profit from rental. car not good? just keep driving, I'll give you something else if it breaks down so we can proceed to scrap it. I assume all 14+ years old car?

You didn't know the cars gonna scrap soon? Think again dude, rent a car of old age and expect it won't break down? BTW, you paid a relatively low rental fee vs a new ride.
Lesson you learnt. Nego with the workshop, top up probably more to get a newer ride.

never rent old cars unless u want to spend half of your time in workshop and wasting time with the company.

Most of these long term car rentals is at least $1.5k/month for a standard sedan like Mazda 3, iirc.

If you read the fineprint, you will see things like:
- in event of vehicle breakdown, there will be no loaner car
- in event of vehicle breakdown, can only tow to the designated workshop for repairs, otherwise you will breach the contract and have to return the vehicle and forfeit any remaining balance + pay a penalty

In the end, even buying a 9yo car with 1year COE remaining is still a cheaper choice. At least when the 10 years is up, you still get to have a choice whether you want to renew the COE...

Actually it depends, you can request to view the car and assess before proceeding with the rental agreement.

Of course, certain rental companies may not entertain your request so do your due diligence.

At the end of the day, car rental companies are out to make profit.
