Uni application help! CCD/D

Hi guys,

I took a private Alevel in MDIS and Im concerned about which path to take here are my grades.

H2 Econs : C
H2 Management of biz : C
H2 Geog : D
---
H1 Maths : D
PW : A (when i was in JC)
GP : E

Non acad achievements
won innovative tech competition
CCA leadership role

Right now I am interested in doing innovative and creative tech, which SUTD offers and perhaps other relevant engineering courses offered in local uni. Im planning to do H2 maths alone this year so as to open up my options in the engin courses.

Meantime are there any other options I can take to secure a spot this year? Or can I even get into Uni? I have friends who have "somewhat" similar grades as mine such as around BDD, CCD, ADE and they secured places in local uni such as sutd, smu acc ntu adm but I could not. Am I doing something wrong in my applications??

Im interested in the schools below. In your opinion, do I stand a chance in general?

Or maybe help me improve my chances through better applications or appeal letters. As of now im really lost and dejected. I think you can filter out IT, engineering and arts due to your weaker maths and GP.

You can try google "university preparatory programme" from the polytechnics, the universities may accept it in place of your weaker a levels subjects.
You can also try boost your overall standing by taking SAT test.

For UniSIM/SIT, you may want to have prior related work experience and/or voluntary experience to boost your overall score.

This mean ts have to do a poly course.

Uni prep program is for the top precentile of poly students to do university bridging courses.

Your math may be the reason why your friend accepted and you are not. Emphasize on math and science.

NTU EEE or SIT courses might have chance. But honestly bro your grades are ****. Your GP is E when most people will get A/B. Could be our friends got similar H2 grades as you but made up with their good H1 grades. Can forget about NUS any course ah. FASS/RE are not the dumping grounds you think they are.

Edit: bro, I think you are quite screwed ah. Engin courses require at least H2 math and one other H2 science. You have neither. Your grades might have gotten you into engin if you had h2 math and science. But since you only have arts/biz courses you can only go to arts/biz courses. But sadly, no arts course will take you in if your GP is E. All of them state "good GP grade" as a requirement.

No la. SAT is NOT considered for local GCE A-Level or poly dip grads.
Anyway, it's v ex prep course from mdis. Try harder. You can do it in future. Don't give up.

FASS ain't a dumping ground. Do not that it requires average B's so you can take that out. Even NUS's faculty of science is easier to take in as compared to FASS

Why do you want to go to some unpopular course that you have no interest in, just to enter a local uni? Thats the wrong mentality alr

Whilst I agree with you people should not be doing something they have no interest in, sometimes necessity (for a degree sadly) might force op to make such a choice. In any case, interest can be nurtured, so it depends on how you see it

hi i've read the req and it states at the bottom, Olevel pass in physics is applicable to those who did not take physics at h2/h1 level. I did physics as Olevel hence i only need H2 maths.

yes it does, but the req states Olevel phys is accepted for those who did not take physics at H2/H1 Level

yes, but me doing this H2 maths is not added into my overall uni score. It is simply to fufil the min req for Engin course. In other words even if i get an A it will not benefit my current grades

I am not going to ask why were you taking your A levels at MDIS instead of the normal JCs where you said you took PW but to answer your question. With for GP grade at E, and a maths grade at D, I do not know which humanities/IT/Engineering school at any of the big 5 now will take you in.

SIT and SUTD have only limited number of sits reserved for students coming in with A-levels and they require a minimum pass in maths for the IT courses and your GP simply will not make the cut for the business courses. Not when you have very good poly students vying for the same exact sit.

You can try applying/appealing/retaking but I have to warn you this process is going to take a lot of waiting and you are not going to like it one bit when the 10-year high average passes comes to haunt your chances.

I also suggest you let go of the thought of joining EEE where routinely students who come from an engineering diploma still struggle when they are given direct entry. You can try to squeeze yourself into a round hole when you're in a square peg but please do not complain when and if you fail.

As it is, you are already banging at the same thing thrice (?) now? It has clearly not worked out for you. So it's time to try something entirely different is my take on it.

The only route that you are ASSURED of a sit in a university is to look at the private options out there, what prep courses they are offering to help you overcome your shortcomings. One very unknown option is Ngee Ann Adelaide.

Please do your research well and find out if you meet the unis minimum entry requirement. Anybody can tell you anything and promise you the sky but if all the rest of the people on the bell curve have done substantial better, then with your grades, i am pretty certain you have some very tough choices to make for yourself.
