Hi guys! Using a throwaway account for a reason. I am a uni freshman now. I did get into all three unis, but I rejected the offers from two to go to the other uni, which offered me the course I thought I wanted. In retrospect I made a terrible decision as I don't think I did enough research before making the decision. I feel terrible and lost and really unhappy, but my parents and I have decided that I will be withdrawing from the uni very soon and reapplying next year. Just wanted to clarify if I rejected a course from NUS for example, would I be at a disadvantage compared to the other students who are applying next year? As in not in terms of grades because I know the coming cohort may do better and I do understand and accept this fact. But on the basis of the fact that I did reject the course once. And the course is pretty competitive with an interview and all. So could you guys provide any insight? I'm sorry if I come off as entitled or immature or sth. I do acknowledge I made a terrible decision which really negatively impacted my parents and me but I am determined not to repeat my mistake. Could you guys please give some advice? Thanks!

Which uni did you get into? It may be better to actually continue with the programme and get some exemptions when you reapply. Did you contact admissions at NUS and request if you could join in as a deferred student? Ofc provided there is still places available.

I'm saying this because I too made terrible choices and that's totally fine! That doesn't make you entitled or immature. I am also trying to transfer out (not local U) and I continued with my course so I won't waste time and get the credit exemptions. But it also depends if NUS will except your other Uni course modules.

And yes I have heard of students who apply with more recent results have a better chance. I don't think rejecting the offer would impact much rather the date of your previous study.

But again this is all hear-say. The best way to figure it out would be to call up admissions and ask them directly.

Firstly, the purpose of a bloody throwaway account is so that you can disclose everything and not hide information so strangers can help you better.

Secondly, to answer your question. You will not be disadvantaged whatsoever. My friend before NS got into NUS business with interview. He rejected it. Did the same thing the following year and this year he did it again but he accepted it this time instead. He isn't particularly good in interviews too. He did have a high gpa though.

Thirdly, the guy above me mentioned it already but you could continue and transfer credits. Saves time and stuff.
