SGX also can buy bond, but i never try before

Bonds on SGX are traded like stocks. SGS Bonds in particular are traded in a lot of 10 because each bond is $100 at par value. Therefore, you need $1000 for just 1 lot of bonds excluding transaction costs.

I'm a newbie to investing.. but I'm looking at buying into unit trusts as a way to start. Not sure if you guys could help with some of my queries below?

I'm thinking of starting by buying into the STI ETF monthly, using the POSB invest saver. Then also starting a RSP into funds for overseas/alternative markets through Phillip. Any spare cash I have throughout the years will be used to buy stocks. Do you think this is a good way to start?

Or should I just buy stocks directly? My concern with this is that because my capital is not huge, I would be essentially timing the market when I buy, and I will need to stock pick, which I don't have the time or ability to do so. Unless I am able to follow the philosophy of value investing which I'm reading up on now, but am finding it quite difficult to implement.

Another qn, when I buy a fund from Phillip, they will charge me a 0.75% sales charge. Is this on top of the 5% front-end load as what is mentioned in the fund fact sheet, so it becomes 5.75% in total? Thanks!

The fact sheet usually displays the maximum sales charge. So if the fact sheet says 5%, and the distributor says 0.75%, then you pay 0.75% to the distributor.

Just started a few months back and now still recuperating commission charge of 3.5%.:(

There is no platform fee and no selling fee according to the bank retail guy. Monthly payout is about 0.5%. I'm sure some of the 'no fees' promised have been factored into the dividend payouts.:(

In most cases, you shouldn't buy from a bank. Also, a high yield fund shouldn't be yielding 0.5% - are you sure about this? It should be much higher... 5-7%.

I see. Other than the buy and sell commission from customers, do banks also get paid by the fund managers? :o

Distributors will get a trailer fee which is a percentage of the management fee - e.g. 33%. This is on a recurring basis.

But not everyone can participate in the initial offering.

waiting for u to answer rubikcuber's qn.
Please tell us whether now is a good time to buy or sell based on FATA.
Q:is now a good time to buy unit trust?
Ans: Its never a good time to buy unit trust.

Q:is not a good time to buy stocks?
Ans: Yes, now is still a good time. But important to make sure use of TA+FA to ensure you get good stocks. And its important to have an investment plan in case you picked the wrong stock.

Q:What good FATA stocks are there out there? Pls give stock tips
Ans: You research yourself lah.

Your plan looks very interesting. A regular transfer between FSM and Phillip can minimize the FSM platform fee. It is great.

One more question. With the transfered-in fund in Philip, how do you do re-balancing? Is there any cost associated with it?

Thanks
David

I'm currently also RSP-ing via FSM, is it recommended to transfer to POEMS because 9% platform fee if it is how long transfer once?
