Whatever products you see now are already using 7nm and may likely be the last of 7nm. The next gen CPU and GPU may be utilizing 5nm or something more advance than 7nm.

is it better to wait for 7nm before buying new comp?

Intel 7nm have to wait till neck long long.... got yield problems
AMD 7nm already in market for 2yrs...

No much diff, except they can squeeze more transistors at the same time keep it cool! I'm waiting for AM5 5nm Ryzen 6000's...

I thought AMD already 7nm liao? Only intel still stuck at 14nm. How long more can you wait? Intel maybe need wait 1 or 2 years more

PC hardware no end one. Just buy and use for 5~6 years then upgrade if needed. No point waiting, cos end of this year maybe new AMD 5nm processor coming out.:D

You should wait for Intel 10nm.

Currently Tiger lake (mobile) is 10nm.

The upcoming rocket lake (desktop) will be 14nm.

I guess the next gen desktop will be on 10nm, which probably be at least 18 months away.

I don't believe we will see any 5nm product from the likes for AMD or Nvidia anytime this year for sure. The earliest timeline we may see 5nm AMD or Nvidia product is going to be late 2022 if I am not mistaken.

Historically, Apple is always the one reserving a lot of the top of the range node because they have very deep pockets. Rest like AMD and Nvidia will go for the second best. In the case of Nvidia, they only use the second best node to manufacture their high end cards for deep learning. Retail cards as you noticed in the last 2 generations tend to end up with lower cost nodes.

Not to mention the "mobile" version of a new node comes earlier than the "performance" version.

It's Alder Lake after that.

Can TSMC cope with 5nm for Nvidia and 7nm for AMD at the same time? If not, will be same as 3080.

Next year will be the start of a new upgrade cycle with DDR5. So just in time for the 5nm RTX.

Today maybe cannot cope, but the upcoming new tainan fab adding more capacity....

tsmc will go to bed with anyone, there is no exclusivity clause with AMD... some more nvidia lao huang buddy buddy with tsmc boss since day 1... if he dare publicly tweet, more or less deal sealed, unless samsung counter offer with better deal...

5nm AMD CPU?
1. Performance?
2. Jan 22 or Dec 22?
3. Any stock issue?
4. Pricing

Even right now 6800XT, 5600x and 5900x are like non-existent.

TSMC going to japan soon.... taiwan, japan all along major seismic belts
Wait till earthquake come, whole earth suddenly chips shortage...

EDB should invite them to setup a backup/recovery site in sg.... guarantee no shortage issues... :s13:

It's more a question of whether TSMC wants to come to Singapore.

Singapore land expensive, electricity expensive, and 3rd world labor. Might as well just go set up factory in India.
