Current specs are on the right

To be used mainly for gaming, but nothing too intensive, some Dota 2 and the occasional FPSes

In the market to upgrade to Skylake.
GPU is down, looking to upgrade, so might as well get a system that utilizes PCIe 3.0

Most probably an i5 6600K

Problems:

DDR4 Rams

Need 6 SATA Ports, cant seem to find a mobo with the number of ports I'd like

With M.2 interface, what speeds am I getting with a M.2 Samsung Evo 500? The speeds are capped even if I were to use a M.2 to PCIe adapter right? Would using the built in disable the use of the 2 SATA ports?

With a budget of around 600-700 for the mobo + CPU, which mobo should I get?

Already planning on getting the GTX970 to go along with the mobo + CPU

just get a gtx 750ti/950 and you'll be fine, no need go skylake, that i7 still very good for gaming.

Rather you stick to your i7. PCIe 2.0 to 3.0 won't see any noticeable gains for gaming.

Just get te GTX 970 and you are good to go. I rather you wait till Kaby Lake or AMD Zen first then change.

my suggestion just get a better graphic card the rest of ur system seems ok....with budget of $600-700 just upgrade the graphic card to gtx 970...if u want to upgrade skylake with that tight budget hardly possible coz mobo+cpu already $600-700 add with ddr4 ram $109 plus sata m2 +$250 at least u need around $2k

no lah, im just checking on the m.2 for future proofing, very eager to see PCIe speed SSDs going mainstream, actually i feel the NVMe samsung SSDs are quite a steal already

what they said is true... rather u use the moolah for your gtx970 & probably a 27" screen instead

Why many keep advising for 970 instead of 390.. Is it the price per performance? :look:

For me is i still dun trust AMD driver & hardware , but their card is really good in sharpness and color in watching movie

i like both amd and nvidia....im going to build another pc as i have extra mobo and cpu and going to fit with r9 390 or 380x...just that no one ask:s13:...but the power consumption a bit higher for amd

Same boat. Initially wanted to ditch Sandy Bridge and go for skylake.

Just upgraded to 980Ti from 680 GTX SLI.
The 680 GTX SLI is quite on par with 970 or 980 performance, except vram.
When upgraded to 980Ti, the gain is quite significant.

My point is that 2600k is not the limiting factor.

So probably get a new GPU?
