Hi,

My current rig specs are as follows:

Pentium(R) Dual Core CPU E5400 @2.70Ghz

Gigabyte G41M-ES2L

Kingston PC2-6400 DDR2 400MHz 2gb Single Channel

Coolermaster elite 310

Inbuilt sound and graphics

The rig has been used for work and surfing net and playing music. Applications running in this rig is very slow and at times not responding / hanging. Running lotus notes, iTunes and Firefox most of the time. Hoping to upgrade to see a change in the response rate.

As the coolermaster has served me well, hope to hear some recommendations on the mobo, chipset and the rams to upgrade based on current chassis.

Thanks.

Did you try reformatting?
If you want an upgrade,
I would recommend a Pentium G2010 and a Asrock B75M-DGS + 4GB of ram.

If I change the mobo, and ram, do I still need to reformat the current OS HDD?

highly doubt you have to but in the case the problem persists, you can try and reformat it because there's a possibility it could be due to viruses and such.
