Upgrade for Final Fantasy 14

Sorry to repost this as I was advised to start a new thread.

I would like to check what upgrade should i make to play FF14 without any disruption and hope to achieve score of 3500 and above :

My current cpu :

OS : Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
Cpu : Intel Core i5 650 @ 3.20GHz
Ram : 4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz
Motherboard : Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. H55M-UD2H (Socket 1156)
Graphic : Generic Non-PnP Monitor on NVIDIA GeForce GT 640
HDD : Western Digital 1TB
Optical Drive : TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223C ATA Device
Audio : Realtek High Definition Audio
Sound Cards
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

My friend recommend me to change :

intel core i7-3770 3.4GHZ
8GB ram
ASUS P8H77-V motherboard
PowerColor HD 7870 2GB or Palit GTX 660 OC (*Crucial as it require at least a GTX 660)


Any cpu tech guru can help me out on the above mentioned. I would like to change the above minimum so as to save money but achieve the require score for smooth gaming.

(*Note : Not really tech savvy so please use more layman language)

Basically your rig still can be used to play games.

The only thing you need to change is your graphics card. Yes GTX660 is the requirement of ff14. If you have the budget got for Powercolor 7870 myst 2gb $292. If you think you have some more, you can have the palit gtx760 2gb jetstream.

Got budget? No need for i7-3770. Get i5-4570 or i5-3470 will do. As for mobo, asus is premium brand with a premium price. Get msi b85m-g43+i5-4570 or msi b75ma-g43+i5-3470.

As for gpu, can try get 7870 myst. It uses the same chip as the 7950/7970 which is a higher tier but at a lower price with some offsets.

the 7870 myst is Powercolour 7870 myst. Its the GPU. Well, your processor is going fine, so that should last for a while. Need see your PSU. Brand and model is impt, instead of just the watts.

If it is too old, 4 years + or so, consider getting a new one. If anything happen to PSU, it may take your components along to hell with it. Can try for seasonic M12ii 550w, it should b $100 odd

More ram does not mean fast. If you heavy multi tasking and open several applications or programmes at any one point of time then you need more ram capacity.

The speed of the ram is the one that makes it faster.

Your ram speed in this case might wanna change to a slight faster ones. Since you are running only on 666mhz.

As to GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1156 - GA-H55M-UD2H (rev. 1.0)

mentions that you can go up to 1600mhz for ram speed. So might wanna considering to change it. A simple one is Kingston Value Ram 8gb 1600mhz ~ $90.

Thats about it you need to change.

PSU is one thing. Please state the model and wattage also. For you to run 7870myst you need a 500w at min. And please state how old is the PSU also.

I'd recommend you to get a new graphics card first. My 7950 can run at 60fps max'ed out most of the time, but it does dip to 40fps from time to time, so never waste to have a powerful card.

As for the cpu, I'm not completely sure, but your current cpu might just be enough.

I would say minimum powercolour 7870 myst/gtx760...they are able to run it at 60fps most of the time

but do take note, fps will still drop like crazy during FATE

and some of the areas are not that optimized as well, you will experience fps drop also....and theres also micro-stuttering problem

however, for the crucial instanced dungeon part, its all baby smooth, so no worries

You could wait for HIS 7950 IceQ boost price to drop to lowest in amazon. it will be worth similar to the 7870 myst local price.

No need I7. I'm using I5-2500k and ATI 7850HD 2GB. Running on window 7 64bit with 27" monitor resolution 2550X1440 with high setting with no lag.
