Upgrade my PC!

Hey all,

I am thinking it is time to upgrade my gaming PC after several years and have been facing some issues with CPU/Memory issues, especially when using surfing and/or streaming videos on Twitch or Chrome, multi-tasking becomes a struggle.

I understand that Chrome is a resource hog but my friends do not face the same issues, so I am blaming it on the dated hardware for now.

I mainly play WoW, so CPU struggles are real when I stream videos.

Current parts that I think require upgrading:

1. Motherboard - ASROCK Z68 EXTREME 4 (B3) MOTHERBOARD
2. CPU - INTEL CORE I5 2500K 3.3GHZ QUAD CORE PROCESSOR
3. RAM - KINGSTON 4GB DDR3 1333MHZ CL9 MEMORY *2

Budget probably around SGD 1K for now.
Also thinking of getting a >120hz monitor if I am feeling rich.

Not a hardware guy, so I will probably require assembly service, probably from the person I am buying from (used to buy from fortran, not sure if he is still in this business).

I have 2 more questions here:

I currently have a SSD and a 1TB HDD (which is maxing out soon), and I bought a 3TB HDD to use, but I would prefer to add on than replacing the 1TB.

Is the amount of drives I can connect to limited by the motherboard or something? Will this new one allow me to connect more drives?


Secondly, my clock always desyncs from the internet time, eventually it falls behind like 4 minutes-ish. This happened for my previous PC as well and I am quite irked by it.
I did some online searching but they talked about replacing the CMOS battery or something.

I don't think this happens to everyone.

If you are thinking of adding on for your HDD, you may have to considering of upgrading your PSU as well IMHO.

Hdd won't take in so much power till you need to change psu.

You need to note how many sata port motherboard has and if your casing has space to accommodate your required storage. All cases will indicate how many 3.5" or 2.5" slots available.

1. Yes you can just add another hdd. Need a sata cable and another sata power connection from psu. Atx motherboard have any least 4 sata ports, so rest assure. Asus B350 Plus have 6 in total

2. Can try by changing CMOS battery first. It's the battery on your motherboard that have the size of a 10 cent coin. Take it out and buy a new one to replace it. If problem still persist, check from windows settings, find an option that sync the clock with Internet time automatically. Hope this helps
