Hi, I am looking to upgrade my PC after 4 years. The following is my specs:

R5 3600 + ASRock B450 Steel Legend
Cryorig H7 Plus
GTX 1070Ti
16 GB DDR4 3200CL16
Adata xpg 8200pro
Seasonic 750W Gold 80+
NZXT H500

With the disappointment of 7900 XTX and RTX 4080, I intend to go straight to 4090. Understand that the R5 3600 has to go if I go 4090.

As such, the 5800x3D seems like a very compelling option as I don’t need a new motherboard for it. Heard it’s pretty efficient as well so I think I may not require a new PSU for it also.

Just want a second opinion before I proceed to buy the CPU/GPU. Aim is to upgrade the rig and reusing as many existing parts.

Thanks in advance!

cpus arent usually the reason for getting beefy power supplies, gpus are. :)

anyway, if u are dead set on getting the best, then this sounds like a good plan. pcie gen 3 of b450 should not have a big impact on performance, though remember to update to the latest bios before swapping in the x3d. while the suggested psu for 4090 is 850w, it generally consumes around the same power as the 6950xt/3080ti, so 750w should be enough; if u do experience crashes though, then maybe u can try power limiting/uv the 4090 or consider a psu upgrade.

1440p 144ghz.. rtx 4090.. 750w should be fine if don't turn on dlss.. however if u play on 4k with dlss on, u need to upgrade to at least 850w but very little headroom left.. I will just buy at least 1000w and under volt. LG C1 is a 4k tv... not 1440p tv.

go google around bah.. find out yourself and understand what u need to do.

I see. Ya, will try running it first (and maybe undervolt/ power limiting) before I consider a PSU upgrade. Thanks!

Oh I have both my 1440p monitor and LG C1 connected to my rig now. Though I can’t run much games on the latter right now (apart from the lack of performance, I am limited to hdmi 2.0 with the 1070Ti).

Hmm, recent articles mentioned that power consumption is reduced by DLSS 3 instead though.

i also planning 4090 route, but the cost is looking like 4k++ (besides GPU and PSU, others stuff basic no frills, use back my 4k 60hz monitor, keyboard/mouse)...

if i want 7000X3D, new 4K 144hz monitor, whatever successor to Lian Li o11 to properly fit the 4090, RGB fans galore, AIO with display, anything more than 1-2 gig storage....maybe close to 6-7k liao......😫

was really hoping for 7900XTX to be decent.....

LG C1 is 4K 120hz, perfect for a 4090 to take advantage of. Can get 5800x3D, update BIOS on the motherboard and just drop it in.
I went from 3900x to 5800x3D and it is worth the increase in minimum frame rates.
