Upgrade of RAM

Hi guys, I intend to upgrade my RAM from 8GB to 16GB. Currently using a Kingston 2x4GB DDR3 12800. Is it better to buy another 2x4GB, 1x8GB or replace with 2x8GB? Appreciate the help thanks!

Up to u which ever way u go but I still think u are better off buying 1x8GB.

To get 2x8gb, den what happen to your 2x4gb?

What is your usage?
Going 8GB to 16GB may not have any visible performance upgrade unless you need the ram to run virtual machines.

Upgrading the ram as need some more items to make use of the Lazada $100 off code. And some games requires a little more than 8GB, so might as well upgrade my ram. Only worry is whether buying another 2x4GB kit will result in system unstable, since my old rams are not the exact same ones that is available on the market.

Most of the games coming out have a requirement of 8GB ram, but since i need to buy something to hit $600, might as well buy another 8GB.

Hi guys, so i have bought another 2x4GB ram, and installed it in my pc. Everything works well and smooth for 2 days, but now for some reason, my pc will have system error and restart after logging in.

May i know if this is due to the ram causing system instability? I tried putting only 2x4gb ram, and everything works fine, no matter is the old rams or just the new rams, so the new rams definitely have no problem.

The error looks like this, and everytime it restart, the cause of the error given is different.

Also suspect it may be due to the upgrade to Windows 10 anniversary edition. Any advice? Thanks!

so now u are using 4x4gb?what is the frequency? are you using xmp profile?.
although mine is i7 3970x and asus extreme rampage iv and 32gb ram(which i just bought from amazon at 97usd for 32gb)the system is pretty old.i am also facing the problem same as you and what i did was just lower my frequency from 1600mhz to 1333mhz, and up till now i haven face any blue screen.too lazy to tweak the other setting. you may try this.

Set manually to the lower speed of the 2 pairs. Take a look at you ram timings, set to the higher group of numbers (etc 9-9-9-24-2t). Set ram voltage to the higher voltage (most often either 1.5 or 1.65v).

If still fail, set to 1333mhz, timings maybe try 11-11-11-33-2t, higher voltage of the 2. This is a very conservative setting.

If still fail, try rearranging your ram into A-A-B-B, instead of A-B-A-B. This will force it into single channel mode, may help.

Still fail try setting voltage to 1.65v if you havent done so

Thanks for the help, tried everything but will still cause blue screen once a while, decided not worth the effort, selling off the extra ram, and remain 8GB.
