today i have the chance to take out some old hardware & tried reassembling everything together ... manage to get the old system to boot up. below is the spec.

athlon2 x3 425
biostar ta785ge
2x2gb ddr2
80gb ide hdd
matx casing with psu

This mb have onboard graphics but couldn't play 1080p smooth enough.
i have a old msi 6870 gpu but couldn't fit it in due to the casing dimension.
i am thinking of getting:
1) 250gb ssd & the old hdd as data storage
2) 2nd hand gtx750ti for light gaming but unsure whether it can fit into the casing. Also concerned whether psu that came with the casing can support.

the sys will be used for playing 1080p movies and games like diablo3 or rpg at 1920x1080 res.
just getting some comment if it worthwhile to do this upgrade ... thanks

which model is your psu? if its headway/vios then i recommend you don't use the pc until you change it, scared later damage your parts. is your case using half sized pci-e brackets or full length ones?

if you're not sure about the size of your pc case, tradepac claims they have a zotac gtx 750 low profile for $188, can get that as its specifically made for small cases. lazada also has it for $189 but they're sold out for now. if can, try to unlock the 4th core and maybe get a higher capacity hdd? 80gb isn't enough for games anymore

i checked the msi6870 length is 26cm and is the same length as the zotac gtx750, so i think cannot fit ... not just low profile but short in length too :o

the case length only allow less than 26cm? if cannot fit and you wanna stick to the old case then best i can recommend you is just an ssd and maybe see if theres any r7 240/250 or gt 730/740 that can fit. if you can change case and want to change as cheap as possible, you can either try to find used or get a matx casing(same company) for $24 at cashtronic. its not very good quality(the atx one i had got DOA sound and hard to work with) but it should do.

alright then. can also buy a new case and sell off your old one to minimize costs, but your decision in the end :) glad to have helped
