Upgrade or get a new one?

Hi,

I have two pcs, one for gaming with i5- with a gtx970, and a htpc. I previously sought your advice on upgrading the i5 but eventually decided to move the i5 to my room for couch gaming. However, upon moving the htpc to my other room for surfing, the performance is unbearable.

Can you suggest if i should upgrade or get an entire new one (keeping my 1 TB HD)?
This will be used for surfing and mild gaming (Worms/shadow tactics/point-and-click games). Doesnt require ultra high settings, budget looking to <$600 if possible. (Recommended speakers would be good too - excluded from $600 budget). Not necessarily an itx.

The X79 is an unknown China brand. If it goes, it will be difficult to find a replacement MB at a reasonable price.

If you are looking at second-hand rigs, you are better off considering mATX socket 115X parts.

As your requirements are quite light, you can consider G4560 build.

The carousell is not worth it. it is slightly faster than current gent i5. 750 is ****. If you want HTPC, get 1050. Not sure why your current one setup unbearable. It should be decent. Maybe need SSD? Or your 970 is dying (common).

If you want Ryzen, the quad core ones are $160 and performs almost as good as an i7.

If you're talking about AMD E-350, yes that is unbearable. The performance is pentium 4 equivalent from 2004.

The 970 is in my i5. My HTPC is the one I'm looking to change. It has radeon 6310. Hehe yes that amd e-350 is the one I'm talking about. I bought it on the advice of a friend 6 years ago when the use was for HTPC only.

Im fine with either a ryzen or an intel g4560 build suitable for my use. Just need expert help in picking the parts.
