Upgrade PC unable POST

Hi all,

I just upgraded my PC recently to:

CPU: Ryzen 3600 (New)
MOBO: B550i Aorus Pro AX (New)
RAM: G.SKILL Flare X 2x8gb DDR4 3200Mhz (New)
GPU: Asus 1070 Dual (Reuse)
PSU: Superflower 1000W Gold (Reuse)

i am able to power on, Mobo got light up, fan spinning and chassis fans will stop for a few sec and spin again.

The main issue is, there no POST. Only black screen.

Tried the following:
- Cleared CMOS
- Tried booting using single stick of ram on either of RAM lanes.
- Reseating of GPU

But nth works.

Anything else i can try to trouble shoot ?

Do you have another gpu for testing ?
Make sure you plug ur display to hdmi as a starting point.

Check your PSU connection. 8-pin CPU PSU cable got connected?

It stays turned on..
Have to wait for weekend to loan a gpu from friend

if ram is not supported that may be the problem

Is your HDMI or DP cable plugged to the gpu? As simple as it sounds, often people would make this mistake and plugged it to motherboard.

The ram is AMD supported tho...

Dp cable is plugged directly to gpu..

1. Validate both items above are in working condition. Try running on another system for both items.

2. Boot without gfx card, use the onboard graphics. Means just CPU, RAM, PSU, Motherboard

3. If step 2 still fail you can go back to the distributor for help. Good luck

The 3600 do not have an integrated graphics. So he will have to use a discreet graphics card.

To OP - Actually I was going to say to update bios as I had the same problem when upgrading to 3700X from 1600X which was resolved by upgrading the bios version, but then I realised that you are using B550 board which supposed to support 3000series Ryzen chip out of the box. I suggest that you bring down to CDL to help you test. Bring your CPU, ram, and motherboard along.

My usual habit is to bench a new machine to check the basic components are working. I have had very odd issues in the past where the mounting contacts at the bottom of the motherboard shorted out the board causing it not to POST (thankfully did not blow the board).

My suggestion would be to either disconnect everything and connect the bare minimum in the case or to just pull it all out and test on an open tabletop (my preferred option). by that I mean the motherboard to be powered up (24 pin and CPU power connector), CPU installed with the CPU cooler, RAM and GPU - nothing else! Storage is not required to POST so I usually test without first,...

If by any chance you picked up DOA part you did not have to build and disassemble only to have to build again.

I thought display port should not interfere with the booting up process of motherboards?

The display port not working would have given him a black screen (not knowing that the PC is actually booting). If he does not have a PC speaker connect (not many boards come with it these days) he would not know that it was booting the whole time as the boot beep will be overlooked.

Glad he managed to figure out the issue. DP port not working is not something that is obvious to troubleshoot.
