upgrade to m.2 SSD

Hi,
I plan to add a m.2 SSD to my laptop. It currently has a normal HDD.

After copying the HDD to the SSD, Can I continue to use the HDD as a secondary drive without formatting it?
I am concerned that one day, I may have Windows issues on my SSD, and so would need the Windows on the HDD for re-installation. Tks for any advice given.

- there is no problem using hdd as a secondary drive without formatting it.
- why would there be problems with ur ssd? ur ssd new right? anyway, u can use the windows cd to reinstall the windows back. but first , permanently delete data in that disc first before u install windows.

He's asking if his secondary drive (old hdd) can still be in system meaning there will be 2 windows in that pc. Should primary drive fail, he wants to boot via secondary drive.

but whats the laptop u currently using? and does it support m.2 ssd?

yes u can migrate the stuff and use your hdd as secondary (but u will need to remove your hdd and install the SSD as a boot drive. make sure it boot up and shutdown properly b4 install your hdd. once install back go to the bios and set the SSD as main drive.)

but to install your hdd into ur ssd again (do u mean migrate?)

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y700, currently with a 1TB HDD (5400rpm).
Hence, I want to add a m.2 SSD as the primary boot, so that the boot & app launches will be faster, and use the HDD as storage and back-up boot if something (touch wood) goes wrong with my SSD. The Y700 supports both m.2 SSD and HDD at the same time.

i see but den again is your lappy in warranty? if yes i still think if u know how to install and remove that will be good but if u dunno please dun try as it will void warranty.
