Some question regarding Windows upgrades.
1. My Windows 7 Home Premium is running fine. Heavy user of charting software, Excel VBA script, Perl. Worth upgrading to Wins 10 ?

2. Windows 7 mainly for gaming(Steam). Worth upgrading to Wins 10 ?

3. Windows 8.1 with MS office and CS6 from poly. Worth upgrading to Wins 10 ? Will the upgrade mess up existing software ?

Any performance improvement from this upgrade ?

Does Windows 10 still support IE ?

Thanks in advance.

win10 still comes with IE. There is a Win10 technical preview for us to try but idk if it's still available. You just have to register for an account to download it.
From what I know, win10 will have DX12. You can read from web about its awesome performance compared to DX11. Thus moving from win7/8 to Win10 for gaming should be recommended.
For me, the main diff beside DX12 is the UI. Win10 combines the Win8 tiles into a Win7-like start button.

I'm testing Windows 10 Preview now, it's fast no doubt.
However I will not recommend upgrading so fast despite
the latest Windows is near stable build.
The major drawback now is device drivers!
For graphic card drivers, there's no stable driver yet
so best to wait till year end than see how it goes.

I will be upgrading the Win 8.1 Pro on my Surface Pro 2 to Win 10. But I will hold off upgrading my desktop Win 7 Home because I read that Windows Updates can only be controlled by user for Pro & Enterprise editions.

It means that if yours is Home edition, updates are downloaded and installed automatically. If you have ever been screwed up Windows Updates that cause your system to crash, you will know that having no control over your updates is a disaster waiting to happen.

True but for IT savy people like me I love testing new platform. :)
Now I hope manufacturers could come out with new drivers for Win 10.
I agree about the Windows update, I have dump Windows 8.1
as to be frank there's lots of rollback update for 8.1 by Microsoft.

anyone know if full retail window 7 upgrade to window 10. Will that window 10 be tied to the same mobo?

Afraid of current mobo spoil or change mobo after 1 year.

just call them for activation using the key you get for 10, save keep your win 7 code incase they request verification which they usually don't

Don't think they'll issue any activation key for Win 10. They're tying the license to the microsoft account.

Hi Folks,
Just thinking a loud. If I am currently happy with Windows 7 or Windows 8, what are the advantages of upgrading to 10 ? Windows 10 extend support by a few years. Maybe performance boost ?
I read somewhere, Windows 10 doesn't come with free
1. Solitaire
2. DVD player
Err.... there is no free lunch. :o

IF Msoft decides to charge for support, can we still revert to Windows 7 or 8 ? IF ever I could hop over to Linux, there is no looking back. :s8:
