Upgrading advices please

Hey guys, I'm currently looking into upgrading my gaming rig, specifically CPU+MB. I wish to reuse my current rig including the casing if possible. Current specs:
MSI P55-GD65
Intel Quad-core i5-750 (LGA 1156) very first gen i think.
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (4GBx2 kit) (recent)
PowerCooler HD7850 PCS+ (recent)
1TB HDD (cant remember what brand)
Currently using 1PCI slot for my wifi card
Corsair HX 620W PSU.
Coolermaster 690 (old kind) looks like this:

I'm currently looking at the new gen Haswell cpu, maybe 4670. Anyone can recommend a new motherboard and an additional a CPU Cooler around 500-600?

U need to over-clock? 4670 can't oc.. Or u just want a nice cpu cooler to look.. umm.. cool?

Your rig looks ok though.. The most if u wanna upgrade is add in a SSD as well..

The thing is ,I notice I'm not getting adequate fps on games, for example recent Metro LL running on the lowest and I barely making 20fps on the benchmark when there's scene with lots of actor. Another situation, is when I'm running Minecraft FTB, my fps could barely made it past 10fps. After googling for awhile, I believe that my CPU could be bottlenecking my fps.

Regarding the CPU-cooler, it's more of a kiasee state of mind. My setup is at the corner of my room and it,s very badly ventilated. I wish to have the option of OC-ing available, so could anyone offer any recommendation?

Msi z87-g45 gaming + i5-4670k $517 from tradepac. But this is bundled price if you are buying everything to build a rig. The price is somewhat additional $25 around there.

Cpu cooler those like h80 corsair should be arpund $120-$130.

Before spending $500 to upgrade your cpu/mobo, check your cpu/gpu temps when gaming. No reason a 7850 and i5-750 is giving you 10-20fps in minecraft...

Looks to be some throttling taking place.

The first gen i5 is still a great cpu for gaming. Clock for clock (just for gaming) the performance differential from sandy and ivy and subsequently Haswell is relatively low. Again, emphasizing for GAMING.

Also your cpu can easily overclock to 4GHz with a decent cooler (P55 chipset allows overclocking) which will be ok even for all the latest games. The GPU will be the limiting factor long before the game taxes the CPU.

Again, even at stock speeds, it should not be performing so badly. Probably a poorly mounted hsf, or flaking/poor TIM application or damaged fan, or poor ventilation either for the CPU or video card.

You can find the CPU/GPU temp with programs like Realtemp and afterburner (or catalyst control panel can find the AMD GPU temp).

I have to elaborate not vanilla minecraft but Feed The Beast modpacks which are known to be ruthless in their hunger for processing.

But ya I had suspected I my HSF could not be properly mounted due to one of the broken mounting points, which I broke as I kinda used excessive force when remounting it after cleaning it (Blah plastic). Thus, I had to cut back on my OC settings to default.

Yup, the fact that you broke one of the legs is pretty good indication that the hsf doesn't have a good seal with the processor.

Like I said, use realtemp (free software, just google it) to find out the temps of your cpu when under load. When the temperature gets too high, Intel has safety features built in where the chip will throttle to a lower speed to prevent hardware damage.

Your computer is more than adequate for gaming at mid graphics quality. I would say, save the money from replacing your motherboard and cpu and spend anything from $20-60 to get a decent 3rd party cooler. If on budget, CM Hyper 212 EVO is pretty good. There's a whole bunch of similar models as well. Make sure you apply TIM and install the hsf properly this time. Plenty of videos on youtube to guide you.

That way, easy overclock back to 4GHz or at least 3.8GHz. CPU is not the limiting factor if you overclock to those levels.

Ivy and Haswell will be faster for a variety of other stuff but if your main concern is gaming, you have no reason to upgrade cpu+mb. Save the money to upgrade GPU down the road although the 7850 is a fine mid-tier card.
