Hi guys after months of WFH my family finally bth want upgrade our wifi. I want to take this chance to upgrade to wifi 6 and have some question.

1) Is after market modem a thing or usually is just from the Telco one?

2) Any recommendation for WiFi 6 routers (budget ones would be great), looking at D-Link EXO Mesh AX1500 and TP-Link Archer AX50 so far.

Thanks in advance!

You looking at wrong thing.
You should look at "MESH" Network so you can Wifi everyone in the house including the toilet.

But I not looking to eliminate dead zones leh, idk if it makes sense but I want higher signal strength and not signal range. Although it does make sense that both comes together.

But adding on to what you said if it still applies what wifi mesh would you recommend keeping in mind for WiFi 6 and budget.

Signal Strength and Range comes together with MESH.
WiFi 6 aka 802.11ax is a gimmick.
Your Desktop/Laptop/Mobile/TV not all will support and you need to be directly beside the main router to get that speed. (Only Flagship Model might support this 2019 new technology).

Budget is Xiaomi AX1800

You Grab 2x of this to cover all Deadzone.
Each cost around SGD$70-80.

Signal strength and range go hand in hand.

If you are near to the router, yet weak signal strength. Either your device or the router got problem already.

If strong signal when near, weak signal when far from router, you can either look at more powerful single router or multiple mesh units.

If buy 2-3 of these and mesh together, will i get multiple SSID or does it work the same as AiMesh whereby there is only 1 SSID for all connected routers?

1 SSID.
Within 5 seconds will auto switch to the nearest Mesh Router.
You can watch youtube for Router Review.

not really upgrade unless your devices equipped with wifi 6......

wifi range aka wifi coverage is link to wifi signal strength.

-see your setup location and see whether a need to buy mesh router or get 1 powderful router.
-numbers of devices in the household.

Looking your budget is around $165.....

-TP-Link Archer AX50 $110++ (features)
-xiaomi ax3600 $110++ (value for $)
-xiaomi ax6000 $140++ (wifi)

last time tplink router was really really good, but now.... a lot of issues.
if u going to buy tplink router, do check for reviews.

How is it a gimmick when its your devices that don't support it ? :unsure: :ROFLMAO:
By the way Wi-Fi 6 works on both 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz, so it WILL work on compatible devices even if you are not beside the router.

1) most devices won't support it except new flagship phones
2) will work on compatible device under Wireless N or Wireless AC not Wireless AX
3) The advertised max speed you cannot get it unless you are really close to the router

gimmick or not
you happy can liao
i lazy to argue with you lunch break almost over

Hi thanks for the feedback and suggestion guys.

Reason why I want wifi 6 is cos my wifi card supports it but yes definitely there are devices my family use like phones that don't make use of the feature, but history shows that in my family it'll probably be more possible for us to upgrade our devices to wifi 6 compatible than us upgrading a mesh before it dies which I hope will last a good few years.

I'll probably get one of the Mi AX1800 and see how well that works and if there's a need for a second one.
