Upgrading from my Q6600 (finally!)

It's been a good run, but it really is time to bid this machine goodbye, and welcome Haswell!

Looking to get everything by the end of November.

Usage: Gaming, Photo-edits, Video-edits / encoding

CPU

• i5 4670K

Motherboard:

1. Asrock Z87 extreme4
2. Gigabyte X87X-UD3H
3. Gigabyte G1.Sniper M5 (I'm favoring this despite having a full tower)

Ram

• G.skill ripjaws-x 2133mhz 2x8gb CL9

Graphics

1. Gigabyte GTX770 4gb Windforce OC
2. Gigabyte R9 280X 3GB DDR5 Winforce OC (Price / Performance for this is amazing! But I am a nVidia dude... mmm...)

What I have:

• Case = Cosmos 1000
• PSU = FSP PT-650M
• CPU Cooler = Corsair H80
• Various HDD drives, DVD drives

Need help rating these few items. Anyone using them, in any combination, or feel that your build is actually better than what I'm looking at, please feel free to comment and suggest!

I dun think you need 2133mhz rams...770 4gb have not drop much in price, so local price nt that attractive. Unless you dun mind buying from amazon, it qualifies for free shipping.

And plz put in a SSD...

Mmm... I know nVidia announced a price drop to compete with the R9 280x, I guess it hasn't hit home yet. But thanks, I'll have a look at Amazon.

As for the ram, 1600mhz? (I ask because I can always clock it myself later, but need it to be able to, need it to have coolers and all)

1600 mhz is more than enough... difference between 1600 and 2133 is very minimal...

280x is comparable to 770, and at a good price locally. For nvidia price cut to hit home, it would take months at least. Dun expect it to come so quickly. If it does, can buy toto/4D le...

Do you really need all the functions of the mobo? Or do you even use it or utilize it?

Im ok if you wanna keep the ram at 16gb. Just choose a decent one at either 1600mhz or 1866mhz.

Think for now just go for the r9 280x 3gb.

If you planning to connect multiple HDD and want to overclock then you can choose either this 2.

MSI Z87 G43 Gaming + i5-4670k ~ $507

I see you have it, how does the creative onboard sound do for you?

In terms of SSD, I'm looking at the Samsung EVO 840 250gb to complete the package. Comments?

Its a typo. Ya its suppose to be g45.

For me it does not matter. Cause I bypass it to a receiver for sound. There is nothing I can do for binary numbers for 1 & 0 lol.

But occasionally when headphones are plugged in. I would say the features are good. Helps to set all kinds of settings you want. Movies or music. Equalizers and virtual surround. Quite good.

Ssd Samsung evo is fast. But to a person eyes you may not feel the difference with other regular brand ssd. Synthetic benchmark yes. But daily usage you can't feel it. In most cases it is fast enough. But there is a price to pay. If you think that you will need that speed then just go for evo. Else a plextor m5p extreme 256gb will do just fine. Comes with 5 years warranty also.
