Upgrading Gaming PC need parts recommendations.

Hi, I'm planning to upgrade my current rig.

Will be re-using my i7 8700 (non K) with MSI b360 gaming artic motherboard.

or should I upgrade to i9 1090k?

Re using, Seasonic 650W FP Gold

Re using, 2x8GB G.Skill RipJawsV 8GBx2 DDR4 2666mhz

Below listed are some of the new parts that I will be getting

ADATA XPG SX8200 PRO NVME Gen3.m2 SSD ( $135 DynaCore)

corsair h115i pro xt liquid cooler ($198 DynaCore)

fractal design define 7 black tg atx casing (259$) or nzxt H710 ,matte black $218

Asus rog strix RTX 2080 ti 11gb oc ddr6 ( DynaCore $2239)

I wonder if my current CPU and mobo would bottleneck my GPU?

I would say it depends on your monitor’s refresh rate, resolution and the game itself.

If gaming on 1080p the cpu would definitely bottleneck and gpu. Seldom hear mobo bottlenecking though. Could be wrong.

Stay away from the 2080 Ti at the moment. The 3080 Ti is launching in a few months and it would be an utter waste to dump that kind of money now. Just get a 2060 Super and use it first then sell it off later.

It’s running at 1080p. The cpu would bottle neck the gpu if running at low settings. Try rivatuner and see the percentage utilization in the game itself. Someway or another, there will always be a bottle neck somewhere.

I’m running cod wz at 1080p at low settings. Cpu about 60% with gpu at 100%. I’m using 1070ti though.

Better to get a 2080 Super and take a much lesser hit than the 2080 Ti really. 2080 Ti depreciation is going to be a hard hit comapred to the 2080 Super which I feel would still command a reasonable and fair price in the 2nd hand market.

Keep your 8700. Get a NVMe and a RTX2060 or 2070.

Don't spend so much on your graphic card because RTX3000 will be here this yr.

What game titles are you playing? I supposed mainly esport titles on low settings?

CPU: May need to upgrade to avoid bottleneck.

MOBO: Will not bottleneck GPU. Affects CPU overclock.

RAM: May wish to overclock or procure 3200MHz RAM as it increases FPS on certain titles, e.g. Overwatch.

GPU: Generally bad value at the moment with next-gen GPUs scheduled to launch in 4th quarter.

PSU: Do upgrade if warranty is expiring.

SSD: SX8200 Pro good for boot drive. Make sure not to fill it up.

Want to upgrade to i9 10900k with ASRock z490 Taichung but seems like no stock everywhere.

if not doing workstation tasks, no point getting more than 16gb. cas timings depends on the transfer rate of the ram, so no point asking about cl16 since for eg. 3200cl16 and 3600cl18 are basically the same.

if psu has >5 year warranty, if used for only 2 years it should be safe to reuse.

the way ssd ensure even wear on its nand flash relies on free space within the ssd. so the more u fill it up, the faster the ssd wears out, so use it as conservatively as possible to ensure longevity of the drive.

What GPU are you running now? You are going to regret getting the 2080 Ti so close to the release of the 3000 series. If you really want to upgrade I would say hold off on the GPU. If your set on going the Intel route you can upgrade the motherboard, CPU and RAM.

Considering your current CPU is only 3.5 years old not sure what kind of performance uplift your expecting as the bottleneck is most likely GPU bound even on the 2080 Ti.

Would you consider a Ryzen System? If so you should hold off for the release of Gen 4.

seeing the games he play, duno why he even needs the 10900K + 2080 Ti for.

Just keep the CPU, get the nvme, GPU upgrade if really itchy can go for 2060,2070, way more than enough for the games you're playing
