Upgrading gaming rig

Hi guys,

I'm currently looking to upgrade my rig for "future-proofing" for the next couple of years.

This is my current set up:
Intel i7-7700 @ 3.6Ghz
ASRock Z270 Killer SLI
16gb DDR4 (2x 8GB corsair)
GIGAByte AORUS GTX1080 Ti 11gb
Thermaltake 750+ PSU Gold
Prism F270i Pro

My target:
Play 1440p 144hz smoothly on AAA games

I am currently looking at the following build:
Ryzen 3700x
B450 Tomahawk Max / Carbon AC (Maybe even B550 but releases show its not worth it paying so much more)
16GB DDR4 3200Mhz Corsair RGB Vengeance
GIGAByte AORUS GTX1080 Ti 11gb
Thermaltake 750+ PSU Gold
Prism F270i Pro
Corsair AIO RGB Platinum XT
3 x corsair LL120 fans

I am looking at changing my case as well for better air flow as I am on Tecware Vision (Shitty fans)

Currently my CPU temps are operating quite high on warzone(90+) and I want to build a RGB , medium-high end gaming rig. All other games are ok for me. Thus my decision to go with better airflow & premium AIO and possibly new casing.

I am still undecided on the final rig set up as there are so many choices, if you can give me your recommendation and why that would be really great for me.

Also hit me up if your a PC rig builder who is interested to do this! Of course chargeable but would like to support freelancers instead of shops if possible.

Frankly speaking u go ryzen from 7700k is more like sidestep/upgrade for production works etc etc. Gaming is quite GPU bound atm if u looking at AAA titles like metro all this. What games u looking to play 1440p 144hz at? If u want really max out or to be frank even an upgrade is 2080ti + 10gen i9 or go i5 k series. Can consider going 9gen if price is cheaper. But cpu upgrade is like maybe even only 5-15fps average to 1440p compare to ryzen.

Wait for zen4 announcement. Wait for sept for new series gpu announcement (hear say) then upgrade by then. If not u sure buuers remorse and upgrade is like 15% max but u spend more then $2000

dont think there will be significant upgrade required for you currently. Just upgrade your graphic card

Your current system seems quite decent so I would hold off for a good 6 months to see what the Ryzen 4000 AND what the RTX 3000 has to offer.

literally only 3 cards to upgrade to, the 2080, super and ti. and only the ti comes close to pushing 1440p144 average across multiple games, but not quite enough. so comes down to ts wallet whether can tahan the cost of 2080ti. also not sure if need to upgrade cpu (which also means upgrade mobo) to prevent bottleneck.

I forgot to include that the reason to "upgrade/side grade" is because my CPU is getting bottle-necked in games. It's running at 80-90+% in Warzone. Did some research and saw that 4 cores 8 threads on 7700 for that game is not that ideal.

Looking at future games as well that there most games will need a combination of multi cores and single core performance. Ryzen 3700x (8 core 16 threads) seems to improve this bottle neck both ways. That means a CPU + Mobo + Ram change to utilize the full speed of that rig.

Graphic card upgrade is not something I am looking at now as I feel my CPU is not fully utilizing the GPU in some games.

I took into account what most of you said but looks like the UserBenchMark marks a nice improvement of avg 30% - 50%++ in quad core and above for performance wise.

do not rely on userbenchmark, that site heavily favours intel and does not provide fair and accurate comparisons.

but yes do wait around for new releases, now is a bad time to build or upgrade. and yes 1080ti is still very relevant in 2020, so not much need to upgrade.

This and early next year will be the time where you should expect significant CPU and GPU changes. So since your rig still works well, no harm hanging on to it for now. While the CPU may start showing some signs of bottleneck, but its not to the point where games become unplayable.
