Upgrading Help

i am thinking of upgrading my desktop (MB, CPU & RAM) and have been out of touch of DIY PC for quite a while. can any expert advise on this?
Budget: $ 700-$900 (if can lower the better LOL)

Current Spec:
MAG X570 Tomahawk
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
AIO Cooler
16GB DDR4 Ram
Gigabyte RTX 3080 Eagle

i will be reusing the storage.

hope to upgrade and not worry about performance much for the next 3-5 years if possible, if not 2-3 years will be great.
Also looking into playing Cities Skyline 2 and heard that it is very CPU intensive

If you're prioritizing cost-effectiveness and decent performance for the short term, upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and staying on the AM4 platform is the better choice. However, it limits long-term upgradeability since AM4 is already at the end of its lifecycle. This is already a big upgrade over the current CPU you have.

On the other hand, moving to the AM5 platform is significantly more expensive (about 700-800 for 8-core CPU, a decent motherboard, and 32GB of RAM) but offers better future-proofing. Though the immediate performance difference compared to the 5700X3D may not be drastic, AM5 will be supported with available CPU upgrades until at least 2027. Most people find some good deals, and set themselves an entry point to AM5 as the usual prices would be pretty expensive.

3700X change to 5700X3D.
16GB DDR4 change to 32GB DDR4.
Can still tank for a good 3-4 yrs more no issue.
