Upgrading i5, MOBO and SSD only.

hello guys..my current specs is below and I wish to upgrade mobo + cpu + ssd hoping to keep most of the hardware i am using now.. is that possible? Budget about $500, will be using it for blizzard games and microsoft office.

Processor: i5 4460
Mainboard: Asrock H81M-HDS
Storage Drive: Crucial M500 240GB
Graphics Card: Palit Gtx 1060 3gb
Memory: Crucial 8gb DDR3
Power Supply Unit: Fsp hexa 450w +80 plus
Operating System: Windows 7 home 64bit

Really not worth to upgrade. Suggest you stick to your current setup. Is good enough. Not even sure there will be a 50% improvement to gaming performance as games mostly are gpu dependent. Your gtx 1060 will handle it well.

All the coffee lake intel platform have to use ddr4 iregardless if you getting mid range lowest range or high end. All must use ddr4 ram liao. That's why not worth.

And blizzard games are not really very demanding as well. They are very well optimized for even lower end gaming machines.

Let's say you choose to upgrade to the i7 8700 + 8gb ddr4 ram with budget mobo setup will cost you alot more then $500 and the increase in gaming performance not even sure if will improve 50%. And even then that setup probably will cost alot more then $500. Maybe you will be looking at an increase of about 20-30 fps frame rate increase by upgrading to a i7 8700 at most.

Not encouraging you to upgrade. You won't see the 50% improvement you hoped for with a $500 budget for components.

Your current specs is still relevant for today's games. At most, bump your ram up to 16gb. You could see some improvement there in your day to day multitasking works/games.

If i am you i will upgrade the RAM and get more storage SSD.

For storage i will have a separate partition for the OS while another partition for data, video, others.

And keep a backup while doing the upgrading.

Yes.. i know as my suggestion to upgrade on these 2 components instead of mobo + cpu -> RAM.
And SSD price is going down worth to get more storage too.

Anyway TS can upgrade to Windows 10 Home free with Windows 7 licence.

Recently i did upgrade 2 laptops on Windows 7 to Windows 10 no issue.

It is still allow but may not advertised in any way.

When prompt to key in Windows 10 product key i use my existing Windows 7 product key and it is successful.

It will be then become digital license and can be re-installed without issue.

Run the file to create an Windows 10 image to either USB thumb drive or iso file.
Prefer direct to blank USB thumb drive for 1 step process instead of iso have to create to DVDs on several steps.

At the prompt for Windows 10 product key do input the existing Windows 8 license of the computer.

This license will lock to your BIOS as in digital copy.
When reinstall there is no need to input the license key just skip as it will detect the BIOS for the digital copy.

You can sign-in to any MS account to take it as yours as Administrator.

It is said that your existing Windows 8 license would be ceased in 31 days.
However you can rollback within that window period.

So far i do not encountered any problem and there are no issue in any drivers.
