My OS drive (80gb) is running low, besides I'm still using Core2Duo.

Just looking to upgrade essential items like PSU, mobo, CPU, SSD for OS drive. I still wld want to reuse my current rig items if they are able to support Win 8 or Win 7.

Budget: $800 and below.

Tower type: ATX, similar to Dell Optiplex 745

Usage of PC: basic usage, i.e. word processing, youtube, etc

SSD + 1TB HDD are the only worthwhile upgrades for your current requirements.

If you have win 7 at the moment, there is an detection that can be done to tell you whether your system able to upgrade you with win 10...

I did have my system that is 3-4 years old in the office which i forgot the specs, no problem upgrade to win 10...

I think there's benefit upgrading your cpu.
The current websites are full of javascript, html videos, flash which need fast newer generation cpu.

Can your existing PC play Youtube 1080p videos smoothly on html5?

Can only play up to 720p HD smoothly, 1080p HD is laggy.

Which brand of SSD shall I go for? I'm looking at transend and kingston for its competitive price.

Your Optiplex 745 is this slim form factor one right?

Cos all search results for that PC model point to the SFF one.

And the only thing you maybe able to keep is....ODD lol.

Think this is BTX format, cannot use micro atx motherboard. Psu is also proprietary.

Get the cheapest possible ssd from a reputable brand (basically something u heard of before) and a 1tb hdd for storage.

The rest should be fine for your usage unless u wanna upgrade mobo+processor which would set u back a couple of hundreds more
