Dear gurus,

My rig gonna be 3 years old soon, still going strong but would like to do some upgrade to it as a Xmas gift to myself *sad*. I'm a gamer and play all sort of games from cheap indie to AAA graphic demanding games, usually at max setting. Other than gaming are just web surfing, listening to music and some prawn documentary. Done my own research and have come out with certain parts to change, feel free to give me some pointers and advise.

Current Rig:
- I5 4690 + Asrock B85 Killer
- RAM G.Skill Ripjawz 1600 16GB 4x4
- PSU Seasonic S12II 620W
- GPU MSI 1080 TI Gaming X 11G
- 1 X Crucial MX200 SSD 250GB (Boot Drive)
- 1 X Crucial MX300 SSD 750GB (Games)
- 1 X WD 1TB HDD (Storage)
- Casing Fractel Design Arc Midi R2 + 4 x GT 1850rpm fans
- Acer Predator X34

New Rig:
- NEW I5 8600K + MSI Gaming Pro Carbon AC - $696
- NEW PSU Seasonic M12II 750W - $145
- NEW RAM G.Skill Trident Z RBG 3000Mhz 16G (8x2) - $310
- NEW NZXT Kraken X62 (280MM) - $269
- NEW NZXT Grid (Fan Hub) - $59
- NEW NZXT S340 Elite (TG) - $165
- NEW WD HDD 2TB Blue - $110
- Windows 10 Key (Carousell) - $10
- Reuse GPU MSI 1080 TI Gaming X
- Reuse Crucial MX200 250GB (Boot)
- Reuse Crucial MX300 750GB (Game Storage)

Total cost - $1764 / My budget is about $2k. This pricing was taken from PC Theme price list for reference only. May or may not buy everything from there as i know going to the 5th floor could be cheaper. Also considering whether should i be fixing the upgrade myself as i've no prior experience. My current rig was done by PC theme.

And about windows 10, if we have a change of MB, we will have to purchase new window key for installation? My current window should be OEM but i can't be sure. I found a old window 7 CD some where in my room.:s22:

Any suggest and advise is welcome!

Cheers!:)

Not desperate to that extend, yet. But will take note of this recommendation.

Tbh your system is still quite stable for current AAA games. But if you are buying for better performance and looks den by all means go for it. ;)

Yea, i'm looking at a more powerful rig and also too play around with OC. Learning more and getting interested in how these things work. But i'm not sure if i have picked good or compatible parts.

Just get 2nd hand haswell i7 and wait for cannon lake. Your current cpu to coffelake isnt really worth the overhaul.

Find a used 4C8T Xeon E3 V3 or equivalent i7 4770/4771/4790 for less than $200 and call it a day.
