Hi guys,

Have a second hand pc which is about 5-6 years old. Specs are

CM Silencio 550 case
Hitachi 1tb HDD
Corsair FORCE GT ssd x2 (240gb and 120gb)
MSI GTX460 gpu
CM 750w PSU
12 GB Ram (idk the brand)
Motherboard is MSI x58A GD65
A huge NOCTUA fan on the processor(?)
Processor i7-950 3.07GHz
Running on windows 10 64bit.
Has a dvd drive.

My current cpu is an acer predator which i upgraded the gpu 2 years back to a zotac gtx660.

Trying to spend as little money as to get the second hand pc however can stretch my budget if its neccesary. Must be able to watch youtube in 1080, play csgo and dota2 at max fps if possible and use the internet and os smoothly (i open many tabs).

I do not need keyboard, mouse, speaker and monitor. However i do need a wifi adaptor to the pc as my room do not have the lan cable.

Will most likely purchase all the items and proceed to nigel to help me assemble it.

Thank you for reading and for your help! :D

ern...so u are getting a 2nd hand pc or buying new stuff to upgrade the pc?

for the processor, im not so familar with it performance, but if u have OC u should be able to get good fps? (or maybe?)

for gpu, u can get a GTX 950 or AMD RX 460, if not wait for Gtx 1050.

wifi adaptor can get Asus USB-AC56u

but still not sure if any of these fits your bugdet or not.

PS: the 2nd hand pc spec, is definitely more than 5-6 years ago

well since your pc is able to OC, den u OC to see if it can run high fps or not, as those games u playing are side to CPU performance so im not sure which gpu will balance it with your system.

as for the wifi adapter, u can forget it, get the PCE wifi, look for asus AC56u.

but im not sure for your slow or lag is it due to your system, OS or the ram poor allocations that causes it. anyway if u have more ram slots can get a 8GB ddr3 ram, else google how to speed chrome. :D

Thank you for the reply! I do not know how to Overclock not intend to Overclock. Can I leave it as such? As for the current system I haven't actually tried downloading or playing games as I do not have any internet connection to it to try downloading games.

Should I try and see how it works before deciding to upgrade? Because I see the gpu like super old I tot might as well upgrade then start using.

I suggest you upgrade the GPU first.

If you are happy with the results, then just keep using the rig until you want to replace it. Probably not worthwhile to do incremental upgrades.

wow, den u should start using it to see if it even working....

well if u dun want to OC is fine. just see how much performance u get, maybe change some settings so u can increase the performances.

anyway that old gpu still more than enough for dota 2 and cs (fps wise still unsure but will give good fps.)

PS: the most we can do is upgrade the gpu and add a few rams if there is empty slots. mobo and cpu replacement u have to search IT gauge for it.

I was using a gtx560ti with i7 870 at stock speed and 2 X 4gb ddr3 ram. Dota 2 is playable(smooth) with no notable lags or spikes. I think your gtx660 should be able to run dota 2 as well if not better than me.

However, I have problem playing totalwar: warhammer (a 2016 game). Even after overclocking to 3.8ghz and switching to rx480 4gb version.

Not too sure about csgo, didn't play it.

Thanks for all the replies!

I guess for now I will swap the gpu from my current cpu which is the gtx660 and buy the wireless adaptor and then see how it performs when I play cs go and dota2.

Also one more thing,

If I reformat the cpu, will I have to reupload the OS system?

There is 2 ssd, shall the OS remain in one ssd and the other ssd to download my programs and games? For songs, pictures etc it will be in the hdd am I right?

Lol u should have say u wasn't going to use your current PC, cos I though u were saying there like totally unrelated...

Well yes, when u reformat u should install a OS so u can use the PC. Next still up to u how u want it to place into which SSD to have OS+programme and games. The rest of the contents on HDD.

Currently the OS is in c drive which is ssd. Programmed in d drive which is ssd. And the last one for everyth else in the hdd.

If I were to format the c drive will I lose the OS which is currently inside? Will it wipe everything out? As I do not have the OS disc with me so I am afraid if I format it the cpu do not have an OS.

Hi, managed to set up the cpu with my gpu from the current cpu which is gtx660. Everyth runs well played csgo a few times.

However, recently noticed that when I start it and when it is in the home page, it hangs. The mouse does not light not keyboard works for ctrl alt delete.

I have to then force restart it. And now it shows "your pc ran into a problem, we will restart it for you" inaccessible boot error occurs. No blue screen or nothing.

And now when is restarts it just hangs at my motherboard model screen.

Any idea why?

Thanks again :(
