upgrading PSU

Hi all

I think recently my graphic card is giving some problem.

sometimes my dual screen, 1 side seems to just died off for now reason. just wondering as part of my research, if i were to upgrade my GPU, what would be a good recommendation?

what's the primary use? If you don't game just get the cheapest card you can find that supports multiple displays.

i game at random i guess, last i played was overwatched, but i do run emulators to play android games at times.

main usage of the computer is streaming of shows and surfing net.
I do light programming(but i dont think this matters)

Hey bro just to play safe before spending any money, you could determine if the dvi cable which connects your GPU and your monitor is spoilt. You can swap the cables between both of your monitors and see if after switching, the screen which dies out has changed sides etc.

If faulty cables aren’t the issue, you can move on to the next step by updating your Radeon RX 480 driver software. Even better if you uninstall everything and reinstall the latest drivers etc.

If the problem still persists, you can look for a TRUsted tech expert friend to help you remove your graphics card shroud, do a basic clean and reapply proper thermal paste on the GPU die and plug it back in to your motherboard.

If the problem still persists, then only would I suggest upgrading your GPU but I’m quite sure there are many more ways to ascertain what is the root cause of your monitor dying randomly before really going out there and buying a new one. For example if you look elsewhere, your cpu and ram could be upgraded to avoid any bottleneck to your game emulator and graphical needs. Perhaps start with upgrading your 2 by 2GB ram to 2 by 4GB or 2 by 8GB. Then changing to an i7 non k chip for your H170 motherboard etc yup

amd 480 gpu can change liao la. u want to use until spoil already then change? just dont buy expensive gpu >$1000 ok la.

your monitor used for how many decades already? time to change la.

just switched from HDMI to display port. so far seems alright again.. seems to be a HDMI port issue im guessing.

you mean my HDMI? nothing, just nv use only...

But using the display port, it occured 1 time again... im wondering if its a GPU issue or is it possible the screen is not receiving enough power... it seems that the screen doesnt really shut off, it goes to a black screen (like a screensaver) but i do not have screen saver on..

So now that you’ve tried different display connections and cables, you’ve eliminated one possible root cause. The next step to troubleshooting is as I mentioned earlier but you can troubleshoot according to your personal preference. If you highly suspect it is your GPU, then perhaps it’s best to satisfy that itch first. You can do that by borrowing a GPU from your friend and testing your system out as per normal.

If the problem goes away, then congrats you’ve found out the root cause. But if not, then is ok at least you’ve eliminated another possibility of your one screen display error. Then you can move on to the next step which is to either check your motherboard’s age, your power supply efficiency drop or your faulty monitor’s life etc.

These steps as abovementioned and in previous post as well will help you resolve the issue without having to spend money buying a new GPU when it may not be the GPU error. Thus you can save your money for other things that you truly desire to buy. All the best!!

think going to get my monitor checked as still with warranty. Think maybe its the mainboard of the screen..
