My rig is stated as on the right.

Currently into the 4th year of using this rig and abit tight on budget.

Thinking of upgrading the gpu as it is currently overheating and causing alot of issues. I have uninstalled the drivers and now it is in a boot loop and not allowing me to install a new driver for it.

So right now I am thinking of getting a new GPU

Any bro can reco?

TIA!

What games you play? U really need a budget. If you say you wanna play BF4, watchdogs, GTA and only got budget of $200, then it's time to wake up bah.

Just state how much are you willing to spend and what games do you play.

I have a 680m on laptop running arma3 and i was hoping my desktop can run it decently at probably 25fps?

My willingness to spend is up to the card that im getting. probably $200?

If that's the case, r9 270 would do.

my main concern is bottlenecked by my cpu which is pretty old :/

Edit : searched around and realised that r9 270 used a pci2 3.0 which my mobo has only the 2.0.
does it affect much?

Apologies, r7 260x would do. r9 270 is close to $300.

Doubt your cpu will bottleneck. That game isnt demanding.

Anything below GTX750TI, R7 270.

No worry about bottleneck

Best is to get a second hand card with box, warranty and receipt if you are low on budget.

No one sells the 650ti, get the GTX 750ti at $22x.

so if i interpret it correctly

There are 2 options for me now?

R7 260x
750IT

Do I have to take note of the card length and width and also the pci slot?

Both are short, so no need to worry. Go see reviews/benchmarks of 750ti vs r7 260x on high end games. See which yields better fps. At the same time compare local prices from pricelist. Im sure you can make the decision whether the diff in fps justify the price difference.

another thing, being very out of touch from the tech world

currently non ref cards are better right?

If so, which brand currently is more popular?

Brands of GPU does not really matter most IF they are using the ref cooler.

But if talking about branding, each brands have their own way of cooling the card down. On top of that each brands have their own unique gpus with Bios and their own PCB design to do their own overclocked speed out of the box.

Lets start with other "non" popular brands

Palit - Nvidia Vendors, Cooler code name: Jetstream, Special card cooler code name : Super Jetstream

Powercolor - AMD Vendors, Cooler code name: PCS+, Special card cooler code name: PCS+ Turbo Duo

Zotac - Nvidia Vendors, Cooler code name: AMP!, Special cooler code name: none so far iirc.

Sapphire - AMD Vendors, Cooler code name: Dual X or TriX, Special cooler code name: none that i can recall but cards like Toxic uses TriX cooler.

Major brands that carry both Nvidia and AMD such as:

MSI - Cooler code name: Twin Frozr, Special cooler code name: Tri Frozr specially used for Lightning Cards like the r9 290x.

Gigabyte - Cooler code name: 2x Windforce and 3x Windforce. No special cooler yet for their Gigabyte Ghz edition 780.

Asus - Cooler code name: DCUII. Special cooler code name: Still DCUII but with slightly better implementation with ROG cards such as Striker, Poseidon etc.

All of the brands will have the same thing in mind, is to cool the card down to its very best. The only card that post great challenge in cooling down is the r9 290(x).

They went through 2 types of cooler in order to cool it down. And so far the best i have seen is the r9 290x lightning featuring its Tri Frozr cooler that can widthstand 500w TDP worth of Heat Output. A rated 94deg card that cools to a mere 7X range yet sustain a very high oc out of the box.

See reviews and compare it against r9 270. Also, see local price.

haha thanks!
Local i saw

Powercolour r7 265 2gb turboduo at $239
Powercolour r9 270 2gb turboduo at $259

Sapphire R7 265 2gb ddr 5 oc at $255
Sapphire R9 270x 2gb dual-x at $329 or $349 for the vapor-x version

MSI R9 270 2gb gaming at $289 or $329 for the 270x version

Right now Im stuck between choosing from the above :/
