UQ or SIM RMIT

I applied to UQ for Bachelor of Biz Mgt - HRM and they gave me 24 credits exemption. Means I only need to go there study for 1 and a half years. But that will cost me about $100+k

My second option is to go SIM RMIT to study Management, which will be 2 years and $25+k.

UQ - pros: better uni, shorter duration, different experience
cons: more expensive, overseas

RMIT - pros: cheaper, don't need to leave family & friends
cons: almost everyone same degree as me, uni ranking lower than UQ.


Which one is better?

Sim RMIT does not offer human resource management.

If u want to get into HR don't see the need to go UQ. There are many ppl going to OZ for degree even it cost over $100k. Few hundreds if not thousand Singaporean go to OZ for a degree.

Do u need a loan, can u afford a loan? Looking wisely spend the 100k+ look at UK, 2 yrs there will get u your honors degree at UQ just a Bach. UQ would cost u more going for a honors plus its 2.5yrs.

from your old thread, what are your friends in? HR better prospects than accounting? they are in accounting and want to move to HR? Note that Human Resource management and Management are different. U don't need a degree in HR to get into HR, my relative has a Language degree and is in HR, ppl no degree also can become HR Executive. so better ranked Uni can start off as HR Manager and 2-3yrs time HR director?

there is a HR minor in the management degree, but i dunno if its enough. the new structure gives you some flexibility as compared to the old structure though.

TS, if you can afford and dun mind spending, UQ is definitely a better choice for the exposure and prestige and even better if u do well. did u apply to other OZ unis as well?

i do realise that a lot of jobs now only require you to have a degree irregardless of the major you took. but does it matter whether if i do my degree at UQ, or at SIM? is it worth it to spend $100+k to study at UQ for the experience and cause it's a better uni?

Why is distance a problem? Step out of sg to Brisbane it's 7hr flight or 3800 miles or to UK 13 hr flight it's no much difference. Bf want to cheat 7hr makes no diff, its a test if relationship. There is will there is a way.

Too cold? Most ppl adept after a short time. Even my old parents adept to northern American weathet, young person cannot?
It only took them a winter here to get used to it, moreover 95% of the time is spent indoors even for a student.

Distance plus relationship out weight the benefits of a cheaper, opportunity cost and shorter degree over a short 2 yr period. Guess different ppl different priorities.

U worry rmit not ranked high still looking at qut doing postgrad? Don't really understand your reasoning.

UQ isn't that much of a better uni, looks like UQ is handing out loads of adv standing. If u cannot put relationship aside just study in rmit, iirc someone went to uni of Melb for their honors degree. Else pay $80k overseas and mess up grades is a waste of your parents hard earn money.

My advice is if you really need to get a degree and all the factors you've pointed out leaning towards me advising you to take RMIT@SIM. Reason being you can finish you final semester over in Melb or any point of time u wish to study overseas. Gain overseas study experience +1, Cut cost cause it's much cheaper and lets say if you decide to do honours year, you can just go melb total cost is still cheaper than going uq. Finally if you're in single you can date me

@patryn I am not rejecting the idea of going to UK cause of boyf but because my family objects. I understand that going to UK is cheaper, and can get degree with honors in 2 years as compared to going Oz, which was why I wanted to go UK initially. But my dad family thinks that going to UK is too far (etcetc).

My worry is not that RMIT is not ranked high enough, but more of wanting to find out if there's really a difference in studying rmit in SIM as compared to UQ in Oz. If it is worth the extra half year / extra ~$80k.

I will choice SIM-RMIT over UQ in OZ or Uni in UK.

1) With a 1.5 years course does not help you get a PR.

2) Does not worth the ROI if you are coming back to Singapore to work.

3) Do you think employers will even care about these Uni ranking when they are not harvard university & etc.

if you hv decided on sim rmit, aim for a degree with distinction (good gpa). will help you greatly if you apply for postgrad in oz.

btw, why dun consider manchester or birmingham progs at sim? the admission standard is higher.

Maybe you can try the university of Manchester offered by sim. The uni is quite well rank in the world. You have the choice to complete your last semester in uk if you wish to.

Somehow yes but you lose out to local Uni & Uni like UK Uni which offer direct Hons Degree because you will not have a Hons Degree salary even if you get a very good result.
