Enlightening takeaway for me from Lutnick’s sharing at Davos:
China has leveraged the GATT/WTO system and global offshoring to rapidly scale its manufacturing base, while hollowing out parts of US and European industry.
The old efficiency paradigm in globalisation is fading. A new resilience paradigm is taking over, where countries prioritise security, redundancy and control over pure cost minimisation.
Trump 2.0 sits squarely in this shift: more tariffs, more weaponisation of trade, and a much tougher stance on China and on allies seen as “free‑riding” on the US market.
