CON EDISON REPORTS 2021 SECOND QUARTER EARNINGS
August 5, 2021

For the year of 2021, Con Edison reaffirmed its previous forecast of adjusted earnings per share to be in the range of $4.15 to $4.35 per share. Adjusted earnings per share exclude the impact of the impairment losses related to Con Edison's investment in Stagecoach ($(0.43) a share after-tax), the loss from the sale of a renewable electric production project ($(0.01) a share after-tax), the effects of HLBV accounting for tax equity investments in certain renewable and sustainable electric production projects of the Clean Energy Businesses (approximately $0.29 a share after-tax) and the net mark-to-market effects of the Clean Energy Businesses, the amount of which will not be determinable until year end

Q&A-"Reluctant to invest" in Chinese ADRs post-regulatory crackdown; Bullish on India due to demographics & tech, services foundation: Lauren Templeton
August 3, 2021

Q: What is your view on U.S. equity markets, especially the S&P 500, and do you see a bubble there?

A: We certainly see extended valuations in a number of areas that do not appear sustainable in the years to come. For instance, we recently found over 700 stocks trading at over 20x sales in U.S. markets. Obviously, growth will need to come through or a large number of stocks are vulnerable to declines. I learned a long time ago not to predict the market over the short term. It would not surprise me if a lot of the rebound has already been captured in share prices

Q: What sectors do you think are more at-risk?

A: Technology and to some degree housing.

The Maximum Pessimism Report SELF-RELIANCE
July 21, 2021

IMF is now projecting global public debt as a percentage of GDP to reach 130% within the next year; eclipsing World War II levels.

One area that we believe deserves investor attention is the accompanying growth in corporate debt, which was already high in 2019 and headed much higher throughout 2020.

As the COVID-panic and lockdowns set in it was crystal clear that indebted corporate borrowers were vulnerable to a seismic wave of defaults. However, as the Federal Reserve introduced emergency facilities (e.g., SMCCF) for corporate issuers—in addition to its conventional QE efforts—it slammed market forces into reverse. The effort led to some previously unimaginable outcomes. First, corporate issuance hit a record $1.7 trillion for the year, and by the end of 2020, the average yield on investment grade corporate debt had fallen to 1.74%, an all time low. All of this unfolded during the worst economic recession since the 1930s.

ECB must tighten policy if needed to counter inflation, Weidmann says
Aug 08, 2021

Euro zone countries have ramped up their borrowing to cope with the coronavirus pandemic, potentially leaving them exposed to increased debt servicing costs if the central bank tightens policy to counter upward pressure on prices.

"The ECB is not there to take care of the solvency protection of the states," said Weidmann, whose role as president of Germany's Bundesbank gives him a seat on the ECB's policymaking Governing Council.

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway recovers from coronavirus slowdown
Aug 07, 2021

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc on Saturday said many of its businesses are enjoying strong recoveries from the early depths of the coronavirus pandemic, fueling rebounds in profits and revenue.
Another sign of improvement was Berkshire's decision not to repeat a caution in its previous quarterly results that other operating units still faced adverse effects from the pandemic.
Berkshire's share price is up 23.7% in 2021, topping the S&P 500's 18.1% gain, after trailing the index significantly in 2019 and 2020.

Rocked by sexual assault allegation, Alibaba launches investigation, suspends several staff
Aug 08, 2021

Alibaba CEO Daniel Zhang responded to the uproar late on Saturday on the company's internal message board, according to a person who saw the post, though the company did not officially disclose the material posted on its intranet .

"It is not just Human Resources who should apologize. The related business department managers also hold responsibility and should apologize for their silence and failure to respond in a timely manner," Zhang wrote.

"Starting from me, starting from management, starting from human resources, everyone at Alibaba must empathize, reflect, and take action."

Thanks! ISRG going for 1:3 stock split in Oct.
Have been looking at it since $700+.
Biggest hit is Da Vinci robotic surgical system which probably dominates the market.
And can be quite a sticky product because of tied-in training required to master the use of the equipment.
