Calm before the Storm? S&P 500
March 17, 2021

It was a quiet day for the S&P 500. The Index was near unchanged on Tuesday as we head into the Fed meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
Perhaps they will provide a rosier outlook in the dot plot, in which they would move the timeframe forward as to when they would expect to hike rates. Or maybe they do nothing…and continue with the ongoing theme that inflation expectations are transitory and the rise in yields is unsustainable.

Longer term, if 10-year yields continue to rise, we can expect S&Ps to fall even further.

Asian Open: US indices lower following soft data on FOMC-eve
March 17, 2021

There has been a lot of market chatter about a booming US economy and how it could force the Fed to upgrade economic forecasts and have a more hawkish dot plot. Yet a small wrench was thrown into the works overnight with disappointing retail sales, industrial production and manufacturing output. And right on the eve of the Fed’s meeting! Sure, it’s not going to make them any more dovish than they already are. But it likely takes a little wind of a hawkish sail.

A Look Into AbbVie's Price Over Earnings
March 17, 2021

AbbVie Inc. has a lower P/E than the aggregate P/E of 80.27 of the Biotechnology industry. Ideally, one might believe that the stock might perform worse than its peers, but it's also probable that the stock is undervalued.

Asian Open: S&P 500 hits a record high on Fed's positive outlook
March 18, 2021

By raising growth and inflation forecasts yet pledging to keep interest rates low through to 2023, the Fed have maintained the perfect conditions for higher equity valuations.

Powell exudes dovishness during Q&A
March 18, 2021

According to Powell, this Fed is YEARS away from doing anything. Powell said he can’t even look at a forecast 2-3 years out! Even “a “transitory” rise in inflation above 2%, AS FORECAST THIS YEAR, would not meet our standard!” He noted that strong data should be coming our way. (The dual mandate for the Fed is to keep inflation near its targeted 2% AND maximize employment.) Powell talked about how the FOMC wants to see substantial progress, and not just forecasts, before the Fed even begins to talk about tapering!

Asian Open: Yields weigh on equities, Oil rolls over
March 19, 2021

The US 30-year yield rose to its highest level since July 2019 at 2.53%, whilst the 10-year hit 1.75%, its higher level since December 2020. Market chatter has continued float the idea of it rising to 2% easier than some expect, and its recent trajectory suggest this could be the case.

https://www.cmcmarkets.com/en-sg/news-and-analysis/rising-fears-sink-stocks
19 Mar 2021

Asia Pacific markets face turbulence today after heightened concerns about inflation sank both bonds and stocks in US trading. Markets continued to chew over the US Federal Reserve’s accommodative stance, and seemed to conclude that leniency on inflation this year means tighter monetary policy down the track.

US 30 year bonds rose to trade at a yield of 2.5%, the highest level in 18 months. Shorter dated bonds remained steady, suggesting traders’ fears about inflation are longer term. However a lift in the US dollar following the previous night’s fall points to a deterioration in sentiment after the initial positive response to the Fed’s messages. Investors with longer memories may recall that the inflation genie is very difficult to contain once it is out of the bottle.

juz a day ago only all say no fear, mkt continue to chiong. today so fast flip flop alrdy. :s22:

dats oso why although i hav mkt index ETF, i prefer to look at long term steady companies and not wht is the mkt hype.

Amazon confirms nationwide expansion of telehealth services
March 17, 2021

Starting this summer, Amazon Care will also expand its virtual care to other companies and Amazon employees in all 50 states.

"Amazon Care gives instant access to a range of urgent and primary care services, including COVID-19 and flu testing, vaccinations, treatment of illnesses and injuries, preventive care, sexual health, prescription requests, refills, and delivery, and much more," the release says.

Amazon becomes the top clothing retailer in the U.S., outselling Walmart, Target, Gap and others
March 17, 2021

Amazon.com Inc. AMZN, is the number one seller of clothes in the U.S., according the latest data from Wells Fargo, as the e-commerce giant makes even further gains during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wells Fargo estimates that U.S. sales of clothing and shoes on Amazon, including third-party sellers, grew 15% in 2020 , reaching $41 billion.

“While this was only a modest increase of +15%, we believe that overall demand for apparel was stifled by the pandemic, and Amazon’s customers were more focused on ‘essential’ items and/or items that catered to the newfound work-from-home environment,” the Wells Fargo report said.

Still, that total is 20%-to-25% more than Walmart Inc. WMT, which came in at number two. And it accounts for 11%-to-12% share of all apparel sold in the U.S., as well as 34%-to-35% share of all apparel sold online.

The Fed Will End Emergency Relief for Banks. It Might Not Make Much Difference for Markets.
March 19, 2021

The biggest risk is that the reinstated rule will weigh down short-term interest rates, which are already under pressure, and possibly push them below zero. That isn’t because of banks’ holdings of Treasuries, but because of their sizable amount of excess reserves amid growing customer deposits and Fed bond-buying over the past year.

With the SLR reinstated, banks will have fewer places to put that cash, and may need to start turning away deposits later this year, the CreditSights strategists wrote. That could push more cash into money-market funds and Treasury bills, pushing rates in short-term markets lower. It could also send customers to midsize and smaller banks instead.

Some of the large banks’ corporate and financial clients could even experience negative interest rates, at least in practice, if banks decide to charge them fees in an attempt to limit deposits, the strategists said.

will add more at 0.5 fibo (~110) which may concide with 200ema forming a strong support. :s12:

FedEx Corp. Reports Strong Third Quarter Results
Mar. 18, 2021

Operating results increased primarily due to strong volume growth in U.S. domestic residential package and FedEx International Priority services and pricing initiatives across all transportation segments. These factors were partially offset by costs to support strong demand and expand services, variable compensation expense, higher labor rates, and one fewer operating weekday.

Severe winter weather during February reduced the quarter’s operating income by an estimated $350 million. The weather significantly impaired operations at several of the company’s largest facilities, including the primary FedEx Express hub in Memphis and FedEx Express hubs in Indianapolis and North Texas.

Net income includes tax benefits of $108 million ($0.40 per diluted share) from a tax rate increase in the Netherlands applied to deferred tax balances and associated with voluntary contributions to the company’s pension plans.

Musk says Tesla would be shut down if its cars spied in China, elsewhere
Mar 20, 2021

"There's a very strong incentive for us to be very confidential with any information," Musk told a prominent Chinese forum during a virtual discussion, asserting that Tesla would be shut down if its vehicles spied in China or anywhere else.

Sources told Reuters on Friday that the Chinese military has banned Tesla cars from entering its complexes, citing security concerns over cameras installed on the vehicles.

Those restrictions surfaced as the top Chinese and U.S. diplomats were holding a contentious meeting in Alaska, the first such in-person interaction since U.S. President Joe Biden took office in January.

Asian Open: Traders flip to net-long dollar, Turkish Lira plunges
March 22, 2021

The Nasdaq survived the week above 12,755 support, despite a minor attempt to break it on Friday and 4% sell-off on Thursday. Why? Because bond yields fell. But Friday’s ‘rally’ as small at best and the week closed with a bearish hammer between the 10 and 20-week eMA’s. Therefore, a downside break of said support is not out of the question this week unless bulls can regain control sooner than later.

The S&P 500 remains above its 20-day eMA and just below its 10-day, after forming a small indecision candle on Friday (Rikshaw Man Doji). The Russel 2000 finds itself in a similar position, although Tuesday and Thursday’s bearish engulfing candles are clearly more prominent. Ultimately, all US indices closed lower last week.
