Is it a choice or you have to go?

Have to go there, not a choice :( Most of the weekday, i would be in University of North Texas. Probably staying around The Colony, Texas. Now start to google around for information to prepare myself for it... It will be also my first time traveling to USA.

Thanks to invisible999 & patryn33 :)

If you're at UNT, you're going to be in Denton, not the Dallas/Fort Worth megalopolis - Denton's a quiet little college town about three-quarters of an hour equidistant from either downtown Dallas or downtown Fort Worth.

Denton itself is a surprisingly cool little town, like most college towns in America - there's an unbelievably huge second-hand-bookstore just off the town square, as well as a bunch of little cafes (and if my memory serves me there's a good icecream place on the south side of the square as well, but this is all seven or eight years old).

(Addendum, because it's worth noting: American college towns are great. Even in the most boring states, the cities with colleges always have cheap bars, great food, and all sorts of interesting cultural things going on. Denton's a great example; so is Berkeley; and Laramie, home of the University of Wyoming, is an underrated gem in the middle of an underrated state.)

But yeah - if you have spare time, either weekends or evenings, you'll want to head into Dallas or Fort Worth, neither of which I know all that much about. Ask your co-workers, they'll usually know what's good. The one thing I can recommend in Dallas, aside from the obvious Dealey Plaza, is the Nasher Sculpture Center - it's great if you're even slightly into modern art or sculpture, or even if it's just a nice day and you want to wander around in the open sculpture garden.

Hi all, i am planning an honeymoon trip in Jan for a 14 days (road trip)
I have a open leg air ticket to arrive at SFO and depart from LAX.

Day 8 - Vegas (10 hour Drive? or should i return the car to SFO and take a flight?)

Yeah. In January you'll have to drive south through Bakersfield to get to Vegas. It's not going to be fun, but the alternative - drive to SFO airport, dump the car, get on a flight - is going to be about as bad and probably a bit more expensive.

Day 11 - LA (Drive from Grand Canyon to LA and return the car there)

Be a bit careful with the Grand Canyon in winter. The south rim is 6,000 feet high, and it's going to be snowy in January. Also, Grand Canyon Village to LAX is a long drive - eight hours of drive time - so I'd be tempted to break this trip in the middle, maybe in Palm Springs, which is a nice place to spend a night.

Will be doing a month trip to different parts of western USA in Dec-Jan. Hope can get advise here on a couple of questions please:

1) Meeting acquaintance whom like our food here. Can we bring in packets Curry Chicken, Bak Kut Teh spice, local cakes and kuehs into USA?

2) Will be in SFO on the 1st week of Jan for 5 days. Do we have enough time to travel to see giant sequoias, where is the nearest we should travel to see from SFO city?

Thanks

Hi, am going to spent Thanksgiving weekend at Vegas.. Just wondering if anyone has been to the premium outlets during black Friday.. How are sales like..

Was there like 10 mins before opening time (ie 12am), carpark was horrendous, try to go earlier to wait. Also, sales depends on people, usually, there will be good sales for selected products, but there will be queues outside too (ie coach etc). I'm don't really like to go queue for such stuff, so can't really tell you the type of sale. I only went to shops with no queue or short queues, which generally also mean not that much offer, for example, like at Oakleys Vault, there was no queue, only the bags and shirts have discounts.

Spices should be OK. I'm not sure about the cakes; if they're individually wrapped (like, not hand-made) you should probably be fine. Make sure you declare them on the customs form, though - if you say "yes, I'm carrying food, and here's what I've got", then the worst that'll happen is that they say "you can't bring that in; but if you lie to customs, you can get arrested and punted straight back to Singapore.

Sure you can. The closest is Muir Woods - it's like three-quarters of an hour's drive from downtown. It's unbelievably lovely but it's crowded as heck, so you'll want to take a tour to get there.

Just to correct this slightly: the trees at Muir Woods are tall and skinny Coastal Redwoods. These are different from the enormous fat Giant Sequoias which you can find in Sequoia National park. I discovered this during my research for my SFO trip.

I wanted to go to Mariposa Grove near Yosemite, but sadly it's undergoing restoration. See the following website for alternative locations for Giant Sequoias (I'm planning to head to Toulumne Grove in Yosemite). The best location, if you have the time to travel there, is Sequoia National Park.

www.vegas.com seems to offer really cheap hotel ... is it trustable ? Which will you recommend ? At < US$100, it's probably the cheapest for the entire trip !

Which hotel will you recommend ?
MGM Grand at $43/nite ? BUT RESORT FEE AT $35+/NITE!

Just something I want to share. Go to facebook, play myVEGAS Slots - Free Casino and earn some points. You can get free or discounted shows, food and accomodation depending on the points you earn.

vegas is cheap, really depends when U going.
if U going for CES Jan 4-7, even MGM is expensive! whenever there is some major show there like CES prices is going to be high. otherwise even Venetian can go for US$100 or less.
on the strip you have to pay for resort fee.

compare prices directly at times they can be cheaper.

May I ask how much does the ESTA application costs and which website should I apply from ?

From the united airlines website I have the link https://visacentral.co.uk/esta-order wich charges 27 UK pounds (Service fees are per application and are inclusive of Consular fees but exclusive of VAT and third party fees.)
while https://www.estausa.com/ it is USD 83.

Not sure why there i such a big difference.

Appreciate any advice over this. thanks
