try skyscanner and look at hotel prices.

did a quick check on MGM grand. on tripadvisor now is US$809 and skyscanner US$665.
shop around and prices changes by the day, good luck

IIRC roaming always routes you back to SG? So accessing US site will be like 1s or longer ping, since traffic has to go from US to SG to US. I had 1s ping when I data roam on Singtel postpaid in Japan, when doing speedtest.

My T-mobile sim gives US$30 for 3GB of data though.
the t mobile has a tourist card $30 for 2gb. (not extendable, cannot use in canada)
or a prepaid card $20 card fee + package fee ($40 for 3gb), +$5 for canada use

is it advisable to go la for many days if i dont intend to drive? or sf is better? already spending 6 days at lvg

Six days in Vegas is too many - you'll get bored pretty quickly after day 3 or 4.

Anyway, yeah, LA is pretty tough if you don't drive, because the public transport is so bad. If you stay on the west side (near West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica) you might be able to survive with Uber for a few days.

Go Amazon search for H2O SIM card only. usually 0.01$ and free delivery. Buy and check out, set the address to the first hotel of your trip. remember to put clearly your name and hotel booking number. To be safe you can buy a few from different vendor and Email the hotel with your booking number to inform them.
Once check in, put in your H2O sim card and use hotel WiFi to activate and topup value to use the plan to your needs.

H2O is using AT&T network. Works in most area.

No need to buy from those seller in the forum charging high premium.

For lv I didn't book hotel directly with them
There's a lv site n from there it's cheaper to book
Sorry don't have link but u can check ard
Normally what I do is I check the hotel own booking site n then the one provided by third party. Read up reviews on them too
That time stayed in the Paris one. Not the far away stretch. Still ok to walk

We drove to lv but didn't drive ard there. By foot n the mrt that kind of transport
Some hotel has nice theme n ppl go there jiak buffet too

What ppl do at lv is to catch some shows too
Some sites has discount code but must be member to see or book from there

I'd pick SFO over LAX, but here's a few things to think about:

  • How comfortable are you with driving? If you fly into LA, you'll probably have to rent a car and start driving pretty much immediately, because you can't get anywhere by public transport. This is manageable, but it might not be the best thing ever.
  • If you're planning to go up Highway 1 along the coast, you'll probably want to fly into LA and drive up to SF. Driving north you won't have the sun in your eyes for the whole trip, and also you'll be on the side of the road that's away from the cliffs, which is useful if your passenger's of a nervous disposition.
  • Immigration at SFO is a lot less of a pain than LAX.
  • If you're thinking of doing Las Vegas - driving LA to Las Vegas is pretty trivial, but driving SF to Las Vegas is a pretty long schlep, like, a full day's driving.

Thanks for the input Shiny!!

If I'm planning to drive down from SFO to LA in April do you know if there would there be any closure to the roads?

I'm planning to view South Rim of GC, Napa, Yosemite, DV, Antelope valley. Still pondering if Death Valley should be considered?

On car rental I saw a post that mention SIXT being a good option. Are there any other agencies recommended? I understand Hertz shld b pricey. Any idea how much it cost for a 2weeks rental?

Personally been to SFO, plenty of things to do there, but each have their own preferences.

Let me know if you need recommendations.

I am returning to SFO this may.

Could I check what other attractions are there to visit? The usual are GG bridge and Fisherman Wharf. Was hoping to have other attractions and perhaps a day to shop. I chanced upon Alcatraz island and wondering if it's a place to visit?

One under raved about place is the mechanic museum at fisherman wharf. It shows alll the olden games. Someone brought the clown game to sg arcade but u shd go there take a look. Free entry.

Then there is coit tower. Super steep slope but so worth the scenery. Have to find the entrance up though.

And the sealions. Must see. Go Japantown too.

Alcatraz have to boom in advance cuz very hot. Mixed reviews. Its a very touristy place now. Worth going once.

Then there is a ww2 ship museum too. See your interest bah. :s15:

Anyway, caltrain easy to take to move ard. Got time go visit google hq.

If u going antelope Canyon stay in page and can swing by monument valley if u not doing Death Valley.

Really depends on what you want to see if you should consider Death Valley.

Not between SF and LA, but...

I'm planning to view South Rim of GC, Napa, Yosemite, DV, Antelope valley. Still pondering if Death Valley should be considered?

You might want to have a look at a map. Napa is two hours' drive north of SF; that's fine. Death Valley is eight hours east of San Francisco; South Rim GC is six hours east of Death Valley; and Antelope Canyon (not Antelope Valley, that's something different and much less interesting) is two hours east of the South Rim GC.

Here, I sketched out the route you're talking about in Google Maps. This is a solid week-and-a-half's touring right here.

You've got a couple of options:

1) Ditch Yosemite and Death Valley. Fly SF-Vegas; rent a car out of Vegas; do the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, and maybe the Painted Desert and Meteor Crater since you're out that way. Drop the car back at Flagstaff or Las Vegas; fly from there to Los Angeles.

2) Drive SF-Yosemite-Death Valley-Vegas, and do the above-mentioned loop from there. Drive back from Antelope Canyon to Vegas, then to Palm Springs, then to Los Angeles and dump the car. This would be my preferred option, but it really depends how much you like driving, because this is nearly 3,000 kilometres. I love road trips, so I think this is a fantastic idea; my 70-something parents did basically the same trip in April of 2016, going even further into Colorado and New Mexico; but your mileage may vary.

On car rental I saw a post that mention SIXT being a good option. Are there any other agencies recommended? I understand Hertz shld b pricey. Any idea how much it cost for a 2weeks rental?

Depends a lot on where you rent out of (SF is more expensive; Las Vegas is cheaper); and whether you do a loop or a one-way rental (one-way is a bit more expensive).

Avis is showing me $600 USD for a two-week rental, SFO-LAX one-way, of a Ford Fiesta hatchback; something with a bit more space is going to run you closer to $900 USD.

The same rentals out of Las Vegas as a loop (so dropping back to Vegas as well) are weirdly a bit more expensive: $50 cheaper for the hatchback, $50 more expensive for the larger cars. I have no idea why larger cars are more expensive out of Vegas, but there you go.
