Flights to/from US has a baggage allowance is 23kg per bag limit, with a 2 bag limit, more bags if you have *gold / PPS. SQ lets you pass if your 2 bags do not exceed a total of 46kg, I just flew back with like a 30kg bag and 1 light item, no extra charge, might not be true on other carriers.

I'm not a gold/PPS member ler.... means only 23kg limit for me right? extra weight I have to pay excess right? SQ website stated USD145 per piece of extra luggage instead of going by weight... Im not sure did I read wrongly.

Then it is 23kg limit per piece, with a limit of 2 pieces. So if you have a 3rd piece, it would be USD145 for that piece, if you exceed the weight limit by abit, they might close one eye.

I'll bring along a GPS that some kind soul lend to me.
already reserve the car online through Hertz... take so much time to make online reservation because their system can't accept non-US credit card... what a dumb system...

Does AT&T offers prepaid micro SIM with data plan now? I read somewhere that says I need to buy the GoPhone prepaid, normal sim card, then cut it myself and have to change the APN in my iPhone to use it... so may fan....

Actually to book a car best is go with Travelocity. They list all the companies with the respective equivalent car classes to each other. Much easier.

not going to Yosemite? from SF to LV?
why Camarillo ? I will do Desert Hills over Camarillo.
for me too much outlet shopping. 2 full days is enough. U already did Gilroy, why shop in vegas. u need 2 days to check out vegas sights. don't miss vegas downtown or Fremont Street Experience.

not driving Big Sur? Pacific Coast Highway, California

Hi patryn, thanks for the reply.
I am a single driver and not used to driving for long hours. So as far as possible i am capping the driving hours to max of 2-3 hours. As such, i cannot do a road trip there. It would be more like jetting from in/out of different states.

A couple of question to clarify:

1) If i intend to do a day trip from yosemite, i should be setting off from SF right? Is there a day tour that is recommended?

2) Both Desert hill and Camariollo are approx 1 hour from downtown LA ya? I would actually like to drive from LV to LA if possible if this desert hill is like midpoint (which also means a break from driving). Just that the drop off charge is crazy. Tried searching major car rental place in LV. Most have drop off charges.

3) Are there any other things nearby to explore if i am going desert hill?

4) When you talk about freemont and vegas downtown, are they near the strip? My impression of LV is that everything is concentrated on the strip and all via walking distance. If i do not intend to drive, possible to reach freemont or the downtown area you mentioned?

Travelling Alone in SF

Hi I will be reaching LA in End Jul.

My return flight will also be at LA.

I have about 4-5 days in US and i will not be driving.

I did a quick research on LA and notice that there is nothing much for 1 person to do. (I wont be going for all the theme parks)

I tot SF will be a better place a 1 person travelling.

I actually plan to fly to SF and play then fly back to LA again to return.

1 Place i definitely want to cover is the 1 day trip to Yosemite.
SF also have some must go place which i saw in this thread.
May I know how can i book internal flight from LA to SF?

Or is it better for me to fly to SF and take those tour trip that start from SF and back to LA. (Is it worth taking this trip top down to LA) Anything interesting on the way down to LA?

I notice that hotels in SF mostly are not Air Con. How is the weather like in End Jul / Early Aug?

I saw good remarks on King George Hotel.

I have shortlist the few hotels:
Super 8 Union Square Hotel San Francisco (CA) United States - Best discount hotel rates

Hotel Reviews of Andrews Hotel San Francisco (CA) United States - Page 1

San Francisco Hostel - Backpackers hostel in San Francisco California, international youth hostel, USA Hostels.

Any feedback on the location? Is it safe?

Heard SF market street is not safe to stay. Is it true?

Just wondering if i should plan just SF alone or combine with some LA tours

Thanks

My interest is more on sight seeing and some tourist place plus some shopping.

Any1 stayed at super 8? Is the location gd? I think the usahostel looks good but no air con. So i was wondering the temperature there is it very hot during end Jul.

SF i got a the typical list of attractions to go taken from this thread:

- Alcatraz
Take the night tour. Book from Alcatraz Island - Official Tickets Site - Guaranteed Lowest Price
- Fisherman’s Wharf
- Pier 39
Combine this into one but food at Fishermans Wharf is the pits. Better food elsewhere.
Go there ssrr is best. Don't buy souvenirs from there. Better from Walgreens. Usually cheaper.
- Chinatown
- Union Square
Very near to each other. If you are strong, fit and the kids are not with you,
you can walk Chinatown and Union Sq in one day. Heck I walk from Pier 33 (Embarcadero) to Union Sq.
- Palace of Fine Arts
Unless you are arty farty, give this place a miss but if you are, great treat.
- Lombard Street
Just a small street. Take the Cable Car Powell/Hyde Line up to the top and then walk down to the bottom and then take Cable Car
Powell/Mason Line back to Union Sq or continue to the end and shop at the Cost Plus World Market.
- Golden Gate Bridge

- Yosemite

Is there those tour that i can travel from SF to LA?

Thanks

Super 8 is more like a motel. You're better off at king George. The whole union square area can get slightly scary once it gets dark. Lots of black people on the streets then. Heard sirens from the police car/ambulance couple of times in the wee hours too. Just don't stay out till so late Lor.
