Stiff? Sliding doors kinda glued shut!
Waking up to -35F or -37C with wind chill
haha that must suck, i hate temps below -20C.
Yep, we got hit hard by the polar vortex here in SF: it's dropped from 17C to 14C.

West coast best coast, yo.
lol 14C.. SF is simply too well insulated from just about anything calamitous.
the wind caused the main doors in our apartment building to koyak :o knocked it off its tracks

heard NY good place to spot actors/actresses though. heard ryan gosling was in my park a few months ago n always see filiming signs around. but I never see anyone famous :p

could u get to work from brooklyn?

i only saw christoph waltz once, and those good morning america hosts :s22:

back in this thread again :)

will be back in SF this Feb for another biz trip.

@bro Shiny Things - thanks for your tips previously, I enjoyed myself (albiet my trip was damn short) thoroughly and went a couple of places.

  • Alcatraz - the prison was amazing...did send a couple of chills down my spine while on the audio tour
  • Golden Gate Bridge - went to and fro, superb bay view
  • Fisherman's Wharf - not as impressive, just like you mentioned :) but just wanted to have a feel of it

I'm gonna try out the baseball game & Smuggler's Cove this time round :D:D

So many likes, mate, well done. See if you can sneak out to Muir Woods or Mount Tamalpais on this trip - they're both like 45 minutes out of town and sublimely beautiful. If you have extra time, get yourself out to the little town of Occidental, way up in the Russian River valley, and try the waffles.

There won't be any baseball in February - the season doesn't kick off until April-ish - but you might be able to catch a Warriors basketball game, which is the next best thing.

holy moly~ was hoping to see a live game this time round...

oh yea, must make sure I head over to Valencia St this time round too.

Occidental is pretty far away, my schedule doesn't permit me to go on a road trip :(

those of you staying in the usa, got a question for you. last time my friend rented a car in NYC to drive to niagara falls and got a speeding ticket to appear in court on a certain date. but he flew back to singapore before that date.

do you think its safe for him to go back to nyc after 5 years? or will there still be a record of him not appearing in court for that speeding ticket?

Not sure about NYC, but LA was to call the court to find out and pay the fine, not DMV.

is there any subtle way to check without stirring any sleeping dogs just in case they really dropped the case? :o

Not that I know of, usually just pay off on time or engage lawyer.

Anyway, if you are a visitor and did not give your passport details to law enforcement or car rental, it is next to impossible to track you down, the only thing they can use is name, where there can be many others with the same name from all over the world. If you are really scared, then go make a new passport with a brand new passport number, at most put down a different home address when filling out immigration details (ie for ESTA, car rental etc), we always fill out and forgot to include the unit number. You can also fill out name differently either like Tan Ah Kow, you can put "Ah Kow" as first name with no middle name, or "Ah" as first name and "Kow" as middle name. Or just put "Kow" as last name, Americans can't really tell.

Just don't get stopped by police again. Since your SG driving license number cannot change.

Have to agree with invisible999 rant! I used to study and work in US and there is a lot of great outdoors in the US. The national parks are a totally different experience!

Can't wait to go back.

P.S: Salmon run in Alaska is awesome (Katmai). But there is a 1 km walk to the falls which is open and you can run into bears. I actually ran into a bear while walking back but luckily it was already full of fish and was sleeping on the path side. :)

P.P.S: Woodbury Commons is fun for a half day though!

/rant on/

OK, biased American's comment here:

People!

Coming from a place where people live like ants (Singapore) to go see another place where people live like ants (NY) is not a smartest move on this planet. Because except Broadway, Times Square, NY style pizza, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and American Museum of Natural History that city does not quite offer too much to remember and does not worth to spend weeks there.

America is NOT New York. Seriously. America has SO much to offer if you just willing to step outside and see on your own:

- Do you know what Milky Way looks like when you see it at night while staying at Border Inn at the border of Utah and Nevada on US-50?
- Did you walk around geysers at Yellowstone, hoped to witness Steamboat's eruption?
- Have you driven on CA-1 across the coast or US-6/US-191 in Utah?
- Have you tried to hug General Sherman Tree?
- Did you have your morning cappuccino and your dinner clams served at Bodega Bay?
- Have you see salmon run in Alaska?
- Did you hike Half Dome or Angels Landing and went down to the bottom of Grand Canyon?
- Have you seen rays of sun at the morning shining Grand Teton?

...list goes on.

Go, travel, see those marvels. The beauty of this country is amazing natural wonders and not only concrete jungles in a few places.

/rant off/

P.S. Do not try to argue with me. :)
