awesome! a mustang! can try a camaro cabrio too..

or you can search vroomvroomvroom.com and choose the respective rental co. I used Alamo and they are pleasant to deal with. Very straight forward. Price already includes insurance to cover damages so there is no need to worry about knocks etc.

From airport, take the bus rental shuttle. Check in via the self-service kiosk, collect your car and you will be out in 10mins. :D

You can remove the petrol option because it will be almost full tank when you collect.

The price from vroomvroomvroom.com does not cover the CDW and the various insurance right?

I only use carhire3000.com and Alamo website to see for now. Hertz is about 900 plus including everything.

Pickup location and date : LAX 29th Aug
Dropoff location and date : SFO 3rd Sep
Age : 32
Car : Ford Mustang

Carhire3000.com is about SGD$480 which includes the below from Dollar.
Premium Package: Price includes additional drivers over 25 & a tank of fuel
Cancellation
Amendments
Theft Protection
Collision Damage Waiver
Unlimited Kilometers for ALL car groups
Local Taxes
Airport Surcharge
Premium location fee
Initial Tank of Fuel
Homeland Security Fee

This is from Alamo website direct
1 Rental @408.00 $408.00
Airport Concession Fee 11.11 Pct (11.11%) $52.65
Customer Facility Charge $10.00
Tourism Fee 2.60 Pct (2.6%) $9.20
Mtr Veh Fuel Sales Tax (4.25%) $2.80
Sales Tax (9.5%) $38.63
Unlimited mileage Included
Fuel Service Option ( $4.12 /GALLON , $65.92 Max ) $65.92
Included Collision Damage Waiver
Total about SGD$734

Should I go for carhire3000.com or Alamo direct? And should I go for the extended protection as well?

Thanks Shiny.

Tried before carhire3000. No issue for 2 times. Point to note

1) Do not bother with car fuel purchase. Just go to any nearby petrol station to pump it full before returning. max rate u find outside ard 4US$/gallon. They charge you much higher. Further, you do not get any refund for unused petrol in the car when you return it.
2) Do not rent from dollar company. there are lots of complaints from them
3) If you book direct from car rental website, make sure it includes one way rental waiver.
4) Extra drivers - California state mandate no fee for additional driver. dont pay for it on booking. you will not get a refund back.

How many of u going?

if you need to book a specific model, you may have to book directly from the car rental company. But do note that most car rental company will indicate XXX car and similar. Which mean, if you reach there and the car model is not available, you will still be given another model. Further, its summer peak during that period, not sure how enjoying u will be under the heat.

it depends on the rental co.? mine did cover everything. There was nothing to add on unless you choose like baby seats/gps.

One way fees if applicable,
All vehicle fees related to the booking e.g. Vehicle drop fees, all recovery fees, premium location fees, corporate location fees wherever applicable.
This quote will not include:

Fuel
Insurance (See next paragraph*)
Child seats or booster seats can be purchased after confirmation for generally $9.99 US per day plus local taxes and surcharges.
Extra miles (if your rental has limited mileage, each additional mile over the limit will be charged at $0.25 to a maximum of $49.95).
An age surcharge of $25.00 per day plus local taxes and surcharges for renters under 25 years of age.
Additional drivers $9.99 per day plus local taxes and surcharges
Any extras signed up for upon arrival, e.g. vehicle snow equipment, GPS.
All extras and additional services will attract additional local percentage taxes and surcharges. Prices below are exclusive of these as they vary state to state depot to depot.

Alamo Coverage Options

Additional cover is accepted on pickup or can be added via their modify link: click here

Details of their available cover is here: click here

If you are visiting the USA and a resident from another country - check out the "all inclusive" price in the comparison - CDW included.

There is no mentioning of CDW being included. Most of the time, they likely to say your booking exclude CDW. Good luck on getting them agreeing that there is CDW. but if they do honour it, then it will be ok. In addition, noted that it was quoted:

"Car rental insurance - Important Information

For US citizens
Some US credit cards and personal car insurance policies do provide car rental insurance so please check with your credit card provider and personal auto insurance policy for details.

Visiting the US from another country
It is illegal to drive in the US without car insurance. Your travel insurance probably only covers the excess so check the fine print in your travel insurance policy.

For more information please see our U.S.A. car rental insurance guide."

Thanks for the recommendation!

We have not booked the air tickets but would most probably travel on 23th Nov till 7th Dec 2014. Price range for stay would be about 100-300+ per night.

Miami sound great! How long do you recommend us to stay there? Basically the main thing we want to do is to go Time Squares, Watch broadway and visit Niagara Falls. The rest we have not decided yet.

Also do you recommend us getting someone to bring us around in New York. Something like NewYorkCity Trip :

New York City Honeymoon Packages
NY is v tourist friendly so personally I don't think you need such a package. V easy to move around. If you are here for 7 days, consider getting the mta 7 day card. more wuhua and means u can hop into the train or bus even for short trips. you can even take the roosevelt island tramway using the metro card. its the tramway that was in the spider man movies and there's a great view of Manhattan from it. .: Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation of the State of New York :.

gramercy is a v nice area. love the farmer's market at union square on selected days and its a short walk there from gramercy. There are also nordstrom rack, whole foods, DSW etc at union square for when your wife wants to do some light shopping. but personally I find tribeca a bit sterile. If you want to save some money on hotel, maybe can consider staying in the outer boroughs like long island city or brooklyn. Its just a short train ride to Manhattan midtown and with more money saved, it means u have more for other stuff. Even though its for a honeymoon, I feel no need to splurge excessively on hotels. but then depends on what you and your wife prefer. :)

7 days is great for exploring some of the outer boroughs. NY has more to offer than just times sq and broadway shows. Everything You Need to Know About Pelham Bay Park and City Island, Bronx, NYC - Recreation, Seafood and More / nycgo.com

for your extra days, if you don't feel like taking another plane elsewhere, can always go to nearby cities like boston, washington, philadephia and baltimore. if you or your wife like hiking, can go catskills mountains camp. or visit the finger lakes district. Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Authority on Places to Stay, Where to Eat and Things to Do - Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance lots to do depending on what you and your wife like :)

If you don't have a license you're gonna have a miserable time in LA. It's a completely car-driven city. Taxis aren't cheap; public transport is basically nonexistent; and nobody hires a driver over here unless they're Little Lord Fauntleroy.

Also why are you flying eighteen hours to go to a Universal Studios? Go to the one in Singapore, and spend your United States trip actually seeing the United States.

That all said, I have a recommendation for you: stay at least one or two nights in Santa Monica. It's a gorgeous beachside suburb, with the boardwalk theme park, the beach right there, and some cracking shopping; plus it's a short walk to Venice Bach, which is Santa Monica's cool, indie little brother. Highly recommended, and very walkable so you won't need wheels.

Firstly, you got misled on the tips. Always tip 15%; 20% if the service was especially good. 5-10% is going to make them spit in your food.

Let me help you out a bit. Those are the prices to buy USD against SGD - they're the number of SGD you need to pay to buy one USD.

So when you're buying USD, you want the lowest price (1.2395). And when you're selling USD, you'll want the highest price.

(That all said, you don't need or want to take too much cash with you. I usually only took $100 or $200 with me - basically enough to get a taxi to the hotel when I arrived - and used credit cards for everything else. Carrying thousands of dollars in cash is just asking to get mugged.)
