Gambling and drinking age here is 21. Ya i know it sucks.

legal age of consent is 16-18 depending on state but cannot drink and gamble!

lucky its vegas, in other states and canada, underage cannot walk thru casino floor or places they have a slot machine. it just make the entire place inaccessible.

Narrowed down my search for hotels on the strip to MGM(100usd), Monte Carlo(60usd), Luxor(50usd) and Mandalay Bay(120-130). How does Luxor compare to Monte Carlo and MGM?

Will stay at the strip for 2 nights, then in downtown/fremont street, at golden nuggets hotel for another 2 nights.
Anyone?

Heard from a friend that MGM is really convenient as you can DUECE bus, express bus, monorail from there.
And there is also the express bus from MGM which takes you to this premium outlet(http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=58)

I think Luxor is older than MGM, never been to a room there before though. Luxor even further from strip than MGM, though connected by monorail (me drives in Vegas, so not too familiar with paid/free transport around Vegas). MGM is probably like your normal "shaped" hotel, while Luxor is pyramid shaped, with the elevator going diagonally up on the exterior IIRC, so might be a novel experience. Monorail only goes a few limited MGM-owned properties. Luxor experience based on friend's description plus whatever I can see from casino level. Can't comment on Monte Carlo, but probably has more central location.

That's the factory outlet we frequent, but there are also cabs readily available to ferry you to and fro, distance just few miles apart, so not much costs there.

Hi Starstruck 123

We r also 4 girls going to East Coast in the first part of July. Care to share your itinerary. Also looking at how to go from NY to Philly to DC. Even want to go to Niagara Falls too.
Any recommendation for hotel that's downtown and yet affordable? Hoping to get a quad room.
Thanks in advance.
hello!! just to share with u a little of wat me and my friends have planned (and hope it will go acc to wat we planned). im not too sure of the details in la,sf and lv cuz i wasnt the one planning those parts but roughly have an idea.
we will be taking china eastern from sg to lax(in LA) during end june and cuz it's so cheap, we r not rly expecting much. haha. just hope we get to slp!

first 4 days will be touring ard LA in which 2 days will be spent at disney and universal studios. one day will be spent touring beverly hills. another one day to get over jet lag and wat nots.

next we will travel to SF and spend some time touring ard the place. the next 3-4 days will be spent on travelling to lake tahoe, yosemite. we will be driving to the places. as far as i know, SF is rather small but you can travel out of the place. :)

next up, we will fly from SF to Boston and spend the same day touring Harvard U or maybe go to their museum of science. the next day, we will go to freedom trail and the surroundings.
will be travelling to nyc say in the midnight or early in the morning. as we will be in nyc during the july 4 periods, shopping is a must i guess, with the additional discount. so 2 days will be spent shopping (just hope we dun spend all our money away then).
after two days of shopping, we will be taking tour to niagara falls (2D1N).
after we are back from our tour, we will spend one day to liberty island and elis island before travelling to DC at night.
the next day will be spent in DC, where we will tour the white house and yada. not planning to go to Smithsonian Museums unless there is more time.
We will then go back to nyc the next day morning and visit the American Museum of Natural History, the same museum in night at the museum. Finally at night, we will go to central park for some concert, if there is. if not, we will just go nom nom nom.

Finally, we will be going to Las vegas for 3-4 days. activities include grand canyon, tour of casinos in the strip and shopping agn. Lastly, we will be taking a southwest flight from LV to LA as it was cheap (ard S$77) and allows us to check in 2 luggage, before we fly back to singapore with china eastern.

accomodations that we have booked are mostly hostels as we rather spend the money on food/shopping/travel.
here goes:
LA: USA hostel hollywood
SF: USA hostel SF
LV: Flamingo
Boston: YMCA of Greater Boston
NYC: Big Apple Hostel
DC: River Inn

please feel free to comment abt the itinerary! :D thank you! :D

Firstly, you driving from LA to SF? Then fly from Boston to LV straight?

Are you a bunch of guys or gals? YMCA / hostel kinds, might not have attached private bath, is this going to be an issue? How important is sleep to you? Sometimes they walls might be thin etc.

If i'm not driving from SF to LA, is it worth renting a car from SF just to go to gilroy? Or are the shops about the same at other premium outlets? Will be going to NY, orlando and vegas too.

I've never been to Gilroy, but usually all about the same, just some places have certain brands, others might not have. Check each outlet's website to find its store listings.

Going for work and travel this may to early august.

Work ends mid july leaving 2 weeks to travel. Going in via Seattle but we took a chance and just book a ticket out via New York.

Any idea how should a group of us travel? Some people told us just get a cheap 2nd hand car and at the end of the trip either just sell it off or leave it by the road. Reason being rental is damn expensive for 22 year old teenagers.

Any opinions?

U can find a 2nd car for as cheap as US$500, but I am not sure if it will survive 2 weeks of long distance driving. if car broke down in the middle of no where that would be fun. on top of that 90% of the time the tires of these car are badly worn out. do U wanna spend $$ on new tires? those cost ~US$200-500 to replace.

I have bought 3 used car here. 2 cost in the range of US$3K, but I end up paying ~US$2K to fix it up and usually the car sits in the garage for a good 2-4weeks.

selling a use car not easy, unless U are taking it into a dealership. Sure U could leave it on the side of the road, then U would have some bad record with the police. next time U come in don't get in trouble with the cops or they may take your finger print and U'll have a hard time returning into USA for the next 10yrs.

iirc some have posted a great link to get great rates without paying crazy rates.

tour white house, write in to US Embassy already? White House don't let any tom dick or harry walk in just like that.

U flying from West to East and West again? wow.
SF 3-4 days! U know the trip to lake tahoe is a good 4hr drive. time spent on the road is 8hrs.

good thing is Vegas in July hotel is cheap but water is expensive. and U get to enjoy the heat.
4th of july sale is ok, I suspect its like the every weekend sale I am getting now.
president sales is always the best. in some cases better than black friday.

Lol, I would recommend against hostels for a group of girls, better to spend abit more, get a reputable hotel in a good area than risk something bad happen. I've had a guy friend talking on his iphone on the streets and some guy tried to rob him (wasn't successful).

where was your fren? what time was it?
I living in states over 10yrs not encountered that.

I had fren walking the streets of Chicago near UIC campus at around 2am and encountered ppl trying to rob him.

to TS,
International Youth Hostel are located in pretty safe locations.
a group of gals staying in a 3star hotel maybe cheaper esp U don't having 3-4 ppl sharing a room

with only 1 day in DC, U are better off walking around seeing the Monuments.

Oops, forgot to mention that he was in NY, not sure what time though. I also stayed in states more than 5 years, never encountered that too, but I try to avoid the bad places in town and seldom go out alone.

Me went for a very rushed free and easy to Grand Canyon, not very nice, but well, very cheap. You can ask for grand canyon tours (west rim) at hotel concierge in Vegas.
