Food trucks are all the rage nowadays in Seattle (as well as in many other US cities) and they show up in downtown Seattle as well as at popular work locations.

They sell anything from burgers to korean fusion to mexican.

Very good quality and not too expensive.
Much cheaper than in restaurants.

Some good ones are
Skillet
Maximus Minimus
Barking Frog
Restaurants in Seattle often have half priced Happy hour just before dinner time where u can get cheaper food/drinks.
Good way to sample the food.

Which reminds me if u like chocolate, check out Fran's at downtown Seattle near the waterfront.
They are a specialty chocolate store.
Their mochas are amazingly good as they use real chocolate powder so there is a rich chocolate taste.
Many people like their grey salt caramel chocs.

The French bakery at Pike place market is also really popular.
I like their croissants.

There is a popular russian bakery nearby called Pirosky which has russian bread and pastry. Quite a different take on normal pastries.

Salumi is a very popular lunch spot for cured meat sandwiches.

Etta's is a Seattle mainstay for seafood but not cheap.

Metropolitan Grill is a good steakhouse but u can also find good steakhouses in other cities

Try to visit Piroshky during weekdays..will have long queues outside which take at least 30 mins to reach the sales counter.

For best view of Seattle downtown, head to Kerry Park at Queen Anne. Tiny neighborhood park but the view is postcard kind one :s22: http://www.seattle.gov/parks/park_detail.asp?ID=342

NYC? If so I could suggest the place I stayed.

Very old Victorian house though. May not be "sanitary" enough for you but it works for me.

Place in NJ, about 30mins train ride to and from Lower Manhattan.

Itinerary sensing

I'd like to get some feasibility sensing on my west coast plan for June'2016. Group member: 3 adult + 2 child (age 8 & 4). Planning to drive car almost the whole time (except during in SF). Only 1 car driver in group.

Day #1 (Thursday) Arrival LAX 2pm, enroute to Anaheim
2 (Friday) Disneyland
3 (Saturday) Enroute to San Diego - USS Midway Museum
4 (Sunday) SD Zoo
5 (Monday) SD Sea World + Enroute to LA
6 (Tuesday) LA - California Science Center, Hollywood, etc
7 (Wednesday) LA - Santa Monica, etc
8 (Thursday) Enroute from LA to Grand Canyon -> is this realistically feasible? Should break the day in between?
9 (Friday) Grand Canyon whole day
10 (Saturday) Afternoon enroute to Las Vegas
11 (Sunday) Las Vegas
12 (Monday) Las Vegas
13 (Tuesday) Enroute to Yosemite via White Mountain & Tioga Pass -> is this realistically feasible? Should break the day in between?
14 (Wednesday) Yosemite whole day
15 (Thursday) Enroute to Lake Tahoe (stay overnight)
16 (Friday) Enroute to SF, visit Silicon Valley area
17 (Saturday) SF - Golden Gate Bridge + Park + California Academy of Sciences
18 (Sunday) Exploratorium + Fisherman Wharf + Pier-39, etc
19 (Monday) Spare buffer - undecided what to slot in
20 (Tuesday) Depart SFO back to SG

Any inputs to my draft plan above, please? Thanks in advance!

In sf, u can spend a day driving down the 17 mile drive to monterey n carmel.
Very pretty.

One option is why not spend the first few days in the LA area, see n do everything there before going to SD?
This way, u minimize packing n repacking for the hotels.

Then from SD, drive to Las Vegas or Grand canyon.

Thanks for responding!

I'll take it into consideration! What I am also still wondering is, whether I should use this buffer day to break either one of the two long drives (LA->GC or LV->Yosemite), or even spend an extra day in GC or Yosemite.

Ah for this, I have a simple consideration : I try to avoid driving car in the first 2 days (anticipating jetlag :))

Hi all, I will be heading to LA next week....

can I check are there shops in LAX that sells sim cards (data prepaids) for my ipad / iPhone?

or if they don't, can you redirect me to some place like Walmart or shopping malls that sells?

much appreciated....

Bestbuy/Walmart. They both sell prepaid sim cards.

Select the one which works with ATT network because comparing to Tmobile it has better coverage - H2O Wireless cards are such. They cost $15 for the SIM card and $40 for the unlimited data and call per month.

June - how many days?
You driving?

Shopping what kind? Outlet? They are every where.

USA is big, u can go Grand Canyon go Vegas; go NYC or DC and venture to niagara or Acadia up on Maine etc

Why don't you consider my draft itinerary above as starting point for your research? I'm also planning for June, and still trying to read around too... :)
Shopping is not a high priority for me, though... And I realize that my plan above will involve quite a lot of driving (maybe about 3,000 km in all)
