USB device not recognised?

The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it.

Any idea what's happening? This is happening after update to Windows 8.1.

I plug in to my older rig and no problems with the thumbdrive at all.

Very urgent issue, I have tried googling to no avail(not really sure because I cannot even reach some of the steps they ask). Such as renaming the ThumbDrive letter, how do I even do that when my computer cannot detect it?

I also tested all the ports none detecting my USB. When I plug in it loads but very slow and almost to the end either crashes or just ends. I tried removing before it end my whole com crash, cannot even restart need manual reset.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i suggest you backup that thumbdrive before 8.1 screws you over and under

gave up using win 8.0 - after few usage, win8 killed my keyboard and mouse, reinstalled and still same issue. lost all my data becos of the win7 > win8 migration.

I fresh install Win8 de. Walan, simple thing also cannot do meh read one thumbdrive nia. I go try my harddisk now.

And yes, I immediately backup my thumbdrive on the other comp. I still cant get anything to work on this. But my USB headsets work leh.

Any bros can help? The issue still persisting. It works on any windows 7 computer, but on my Win 8.1 rig it will not be able to read it and may crash sometimes.

Possible that the whatever thumbdrive you had has some softwares in it that has a conflict with windows8. Thats what I face with ny toshiba thumbdrive.

But if lets say the thumbdrive has no softwares pre embedded then probably download the usb controller and reinstall.

Could be windows 8.1 driver issues. Happened to me on a windows 8 rig. Had to reinstall the usb 3.0 mb drivers...
