usb devices take a long time to initialize on bootup

I have been using my setup for about 2 years with no problem, then I noticed this.

Recently, all my USB devices take a very long time to initialize on bootup. (I'm using windows 7)

For example,my USB soundcard isn't detected until about 4 minutes after the windows desktoo appears. Also, my USB mouse keeps flickering (the light on the mouse) and is nonresponsive. After about 4 minutes, the lights on the mouse go fully on, and then only does it respond.

Is it a hardware or software problem? Im thinking in the background a lot of bootup processes are running and sucking power, but I can't be sure. I haven't installed anything new for months, both hardware and software.

Edit: Before doing anything, unplug all USB devices except keyboard/mouse and start, see if there's a 4 min delay. If no issue, Plug back in devices one by one and check which one's causing the delay.

I assume you're on Windows 7 according to your specs

Firstly, check Event Viewer to see if there is any error during start up.

Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer. Open it just after your PC started and everything initialized. Check if there are any error.

Next is to check Starting up Programmes.

Go to Run (Windows Key + R)

type in msconfig

click Ok.

Go to Startup Tab, remove unnecessary startup

Go to Services Tab, Hide all Microsoft Services, then the 3rd party services, check which services you can disable.

Other than that, look at your startup programs and disable stuff you don't need.

i'm using SSD.

the mouse light (its a gaming mouse) keeps flickering, so I don't know what's going on.
I'll check the recommended items tonight when i get home.

Maybe your aging PSU does not supply enough juice on 5v rail.

Yup. PSU or motherboard. Since time is a factor.

could be, but this flickering only happens for the first 4 minutes. after that there is no problem anymore and everything works fine all the way until i shut down.

how abt boot to uefi bios - any delay for mouse/kb, light flicker?
if no, prolly have a look in windows device manager for clues...

seems ext usb hdd is one of the more problematic reported...

You can click on Custom Views-> Administrative Events, it will display with date and time, the events that took place. Check if you see any error or warnings for the first 4 mins of switching on your pc. You can see mine has some errors, and clicking on each will give you the event id and code. You can google it to see what the error means.

If you do not have custom views -> admin events, click on Windows Logs -> System

What worries me is you've a Kernal Power issue under "Last Hour"
